Nvidia gtx 560 seems to give me BSOD while using After Effects

    Hey guys,

    I just replaced my xfx radeon hd 4870 with a newer EVGA Nvidia gtx 560 to help me with video editing and for better graphics in Battlefield 3.

    Since I made the switch, I installed all of the latest drivers from Nvidia and uninstalled all of the Ati drivers. Battlefield 3 has given me BSOD once and After Effects CS5.5 has given me BSOD twice just today! It seems as though once a program approaches a certain amount of ram, it BSODs. I never had this problem with the radeon. The radeon would only overheat in BF3 if I played too long.

    I just updated my System specs on here and I'm attaching the most recent BSOD Dump files. Any help you guys could give me would be much appreciated!

    EDIT: The error code is 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). So I guess its not a video card error....

    Many of us on the forums actually do not recommend automated optimization tools for Windows 7. Windows 7 does a much better job of handling its own optimization than its predecessors did.     ASACPI.sys:
    Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:
    1. Going to the Asus motherboard support site
      When you reach the website:
    2. Scroll down the page and click Utilities
    3. Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
    4. Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
    5. Download and install the driver.
    6. After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.
      • Click Start Menu
      • Click My Computer
      • Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
      • Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)

    I have updated my post. I saw that one of your crashes indicated your DiskCryptor driver as the cause.

    Whats up with Diskcryptor? I've used it to encrypt one of my hard drives. I was planning on encrypting the rest of my PC with it in case it gets stolen out of my dorm. What do you suggest I do?

    You could try re-installing it and see if it provides more stability.

    It may also be showing up in the stack but not be the true cause. It still may be a good troubleshooting step to remove it at some point to see if the problems stop.

    so far it seems to be running smoothly. Its been rendering a 1080p video for the past 30 minutes and has crashed yet!

    Thanks for your help! I uninstalled the windows registry repair program (I had found it for my moms pc, which runs windows xp and thought it couldnt hurt to put it on my own too), fixed the AODdriver problem, and updated ASACPI.sys. I also removed diskcryptor for now, but I think I might put it back on later.

    Bad news It BSOD'd again. Im posting the dump here again. Its probably the diskcryptor driver, but I want to make sure.

    I was giving this further thought earlier. When is the last time you ran a Disk Check with Automatically fix file system errors checked? Sometimes, 3rd party hard disk related software can cause crashes if there are file system errors on the drive.

    Run the disk check on all hard drives you use with the system. For any drives that do not give the message:
    Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
    run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
    Windows has made corrections to the file system
    after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

    I would if I could, but I tried turning on my PC today, and it gave BSOD in the middle of the windows start up logo.... Nothing I do will make it start. I've tried running windows recovery and it can't fix it. I have a system image backed up....but the hard drive is encrypted with diskcryptor... story of my life. I removed diskcryptor from my PC right after I made my last post on here, so I have no idea whats causing it to freak out now...

    I have no idea what to do.... Im gonna install diskcryptor on another pc, decrypt my backup and try to restore it. Do you have any ideas or thoughts?

    Isn't disk check the same thing as defragging? I thought windows 7 defragged routinely?

    Disk check is not the same as defragging. Defragging consolidates files so they are easier to access and read from the disk. It can also compact them toward the center of the disk for faster access if you use the appropriate flags.

    Disk check will find file system errors in which the file system itself has become corrupted or damaged. I'll give you a scenario to try to describe it from an office space perspective. Think of a hard disk as a filing cabinet. How those files are organized allows you to access them easier. If they were just thrown in the cabinet with no organizational scheme, it would take you forever to find the file you were looking for. Imagine you had a bunch of folders in the filing cabinet. Say you had a folder labeled "cars" and another labeled "boats", but some of your car paperwork was in the boat folder and vice versa.

    Now, if you consider those folders as actual files on your Windows system, that is what defragmenting takes care of. A large file, say a video file, may have parts of itself scattered with pieces of other files existing in between. The file is fragmented. Defragmenting will put all the car paperwork (video segments) in the "cars" folder (video file), all the boat paperwork (music file segments for example) in the "boats" folder (music file), and then it will organize the folders themselves (each file will be rearranged on the sectors of the disk for easier access through the file system).


    Now, think of the filing cabinet itself as the hard disk. Let's say someone went into the cabinet and changed the labels to the files but did not actually move the file contents themselves. This is known as file system corruption. The indices are not as they should be. A disk check will resolve this so that the proper labels are given to the proper files.

    Now, suppose you have a filing cabinet that you have a spare drawer. One of the drawers that has files in it is damaged (a broken latch, a bad track, etc.) making it difficult to open the drawer and access the files. A hard disk can be checked and the bad sectors repaired. Hard disks have spare sectors to place data much as the filing cabinet with the extra drawer. The files are taken from the broken drawer (bad sectors) and placed into the spare drawer (spare sectors).
