propsys.dll error
Hi all,
I have a pc running Windows 7 Pro and in the last couple of days have started receiving propsys.dll error messages on startup and also when opening applications. The computer boots fine and runs OK but just keep getting the error windows appearing. The only thing that I can see that is not working is I have no sound when playing games, cd's or online media etc. However, the speakers test OK and device manager shows all audio drivers/devices are working correctly?
My son uses the pc to play COD and RFactor online so I am assuming the fault could stem from this? The only new application (that I am aware of!) that has been loaded to the pc recently is Skype which my son installed a couple of weeks back.
To try and rectify the problem I looked at rolling back to a restore point but unfortunately the latest restore point was after this issue started.
I have AVG (Free) running but when trying to run a system scan, it shuts down the app with an error message which suggested to me a virus. Therefore, I ran McAfee Stinger and Spybot successfully and neither of the programs found anything nasty. I also ran the online Microsoft full system scan and this didn't find anything either.
I have googled the issue and found many others out there having the same problem. I considered downloading a new version of the propsys.dll file and installing but several articles I read advised against doing this. I have the original Win 7 OS disk but was reluctant to run this as I am not sure if it has a 'repair' option?
I have seen on the Microsoft that you can create a bootable repair disk to run but this sounds like a drastic step to take and really not sure if this would fix the problem?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
