BSOD caused by iaStor.sys

Hello all.

This damn Intel Matrix Storage Manager is causing some very annoying BSOD's.

This only started happening recently, I have had about 20 or so BSOD's which started on the 2nd (yesterday). I am unsure what I changed, but it is possible a game I downloaded through steam has done something with direct X/graphics settings, but not sure if that is relivant.

This is my somewhat strange situation... the crash will not happen if I am actively using my laptop, it only happens if I am not interacting with it, and will crash after an inconsistent time of 1-4 minutes. The way I am getting around this now, by playing a minimized movie on mute in VLC. This effectively stops the crashes, but is a short term fix (if the movie is paused, the crashes will happen!)

Here is my latest crash report, and they have all been the same.

Things I have tried:

* Updating the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, but as I had the latest one I over rode it with an earlier version. This caused a problem that would not let windows start and I had to reverse it.

* Virus/trojan/rootkit scans, but nothing has been found.

* Downloading and running R130119 (as suggested by another forum), but it was not compatible with win7.

* System restore points, but unfortunately I had none! I was under the fatal assumption that windows did these automatically at defining moments. Nope.


This driver seems to be a common issue, but as of now I have not been able to find a fix. Does anyone have any idea what could have suddenly caused this to happen, why it only happens during inactivity, and more importantly, how to fix it!?

Install this one

I have dutch win7 so maybe you don't understand.
Goto "device manager". Double click on "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" it expands that branch. Now you see something like "Intel SATA AHCI controller". Rightclick on it and select "upgrade driver".
Now click on the option "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
checkmark "show compatible hardware". Now you see the screenshot I posted before. Select the microsoft standard driver. Press next and follow instructions. You have to reboot afterwards. After rebooting.. new hardware will be found and let it install drivers for 5 minutes (maybe you have to reboot again). Check device manager and look again in that branch if it really updated the driver.

Any questions? Did you succesfully install it?

I could not see IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.. This is my list.

But this looks close, is this the one you mean?

If so, then these are my only options. Which one?

None of them is what I meant. Please post screenshot of "disk management". And tell me if you use RAID (mirroring, striping?)

rightclick "computer" in windows explorer->manage. Now select "disk management"
