Hmmm...I don't know what is going on then.... You have a New HDD, a Different Version of the OS.

Have you cleaned out the case from all dust and lint? Overheating does not cause a computer to freeze, it makes the computer shut down completely. But it is also good to make sure it's clean. Don't use a Vacuum, but rather blow it out some how. I use a Compressor with a moisture filter on it. I have also used Caned Air at times in a pinch.

    Are all your fans working?

You could have a power problem, the power supply adapter might be loose...But probably not..I'm just trying to throw out suggestions at this point.

Could be a loose Video or Memory Card?
Your computer's memory cards may have worked loose. I would pull them all out, one at a time and replace them back into the same slots. The memory that's in there, did you upgrade them at all, or did they come stock? Have you moved them around too? They have to be put in, specific spots. the Highest closest to the CPU and if you have 4 slots of dual core, the memory cards have to be identical in Slot 1 and 3 and the same for slot 2 and 4. In other words, don't have a 1GB stick in slot 1 and 2 and a 512 MB in slots 3 and 4. They need to be 1GB slot 1 and 3 and 512MB in slot 2 and 4. I am only using these numbers, 1GB and 512MB for reference. You could have something different. Slot 1 is the one that is closest to the CPU..

ok there is only 12 slots on the board the are a dual set with a 2 gb kit of 2 sticks at 1gb from kingston in them the power supply and adapter is secure same with graphics card bascially everything on the inside is how it should be as im using the same computer to type on here but from a win xp os on a 2nd hdd the xp installtion works fine no problems at all. which is why i can understand y 7 wont work the same but as i have said before i can go on win 7 safe mode and it never hangs or freezes at all its when im on the normal mode that it hangs and freezes etc. hence the confusion
