Are you using the same ram from the previous sysytem? If I were you I would take a very close look at your ram as well. My experiences in the past with random reboots or freeze's with XP were ram related. Depending on your system certain ram can be extremely finicky to achieve stability. I used to have Crucial Ballistix and they were horrible, RMA'd, and no matter what I did I couldn't get the damn things to hold a stable system for more than a few days. Sometimes it would even pass a memtest one day and fail the next.

Even now, with my OCZ Reaper HPC's they are 100% rock solid BUT ONLY after I set a value for EVERY timing in the BIOS, having it on auto was no good for these sticks.

My suggestion run memtest86+ overnight! Let it run through 10-15 cycles of tests. If in the morning it still shows running and no errors, well at least you've ruled out the ram!

    problem solved

It appears that the power supply was the offending piece.

After working with a ton of pc's for 20++ years, I have never seen a PS that "didn't work" even though it was providing power.

Why this occurs with Vista and W7 64x machines is puzzling, but I am glad to have my pc back. I have reviewed many posts with this similar problem, so there has to be a communication problem between the os to mboard to PS; I am sure that somebody with greater skills than I have, will solve it someday.

    Thanks for everybody's contributions.

It's been about 24 hrs and mine did not reboot yet. what i have changed is where i plug my computer. Rather than plugging it into the power bar with 4-5 other things, it's separate and i have plugged it into the wall directly. I don't know if this will work as my computer has already worked 2 days before a reboot in the past.

thanks for the update aig and others for thoughts and ideas!!

    new power supply

I actually went from a 650 to 700, which I would have thought was overkill, but it certainly solved my current problem.

    [SOLVED] Kernel power ID 41

Hi everyone, I had the same issue and im running windows7 Ultimate 64bit
I experienced it for few days and I tried many things which have Failed:
    I decided to create an account at this forum and share my solution because many people got the same issue as I can see so here is what Ive tried before getting to the final solution;

    Tried to:

    1. disable on board Audio and network card
    2. change the power supply for memmory and everything via Bios
    3. disabled the sleepmode and did custom balance power plan
    4. updated all the drivers I could
    5. tested memmory (no problems were found)
    6. tried Safe mode, still got random restarts
    7. Tried to disable automatic restarts, also didnt work.
    8. Restoring Bios to default settings.

How I solved This: (Gigabyte EX58-UD3R motherboard)

I opened the computer case, and Changed the order of my Memmory Cards.
As im working with 2GB x3
The order at which they were placed inside the slots was Incorrect!
(Note that its a new computer)

So I manually moved them so they all are placed at this order` from Left to Right; and the most right slot remained empty.

means If I have 4 slots and 3 cards, the 4th slot which is the most Right side will remain empty, and the 3 other slots are filled with the cards.
It actually solved all the random restarts, good luck.

I am having the same problem but it does seem to be a problem with the network. The only time it will reboot is if I am transferrring a very large batch of files. 60GB or so. I will drag and drop a number of folders that are quite large and it will always reboot at some point during the transfer. I am thinking it has something to do with the driver that is being used. I will try a different driver and see if it resolves the problem.
