Various BSODs are back, not consistent, seems random

Okay, I asked because it was blaming some windows file which comes through windows updates
So, have you thought of replacements?

Did you see how the computer performs without any software/drivers loaded into the OS?

This may not be related at all, but there's an optional windows update for internet explorer that will not install. It's Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems. The installation always fails, giving an error code 80092004. I've tried going to microsoft's website for ie9 to install it there and it will still not install. I also notice that I have internet explorer 8, not 9. I use chrome so I'm not sure it matters but it's odd to me.

I tried searching for information on the error 80092004 but what I'm finding is pretty useless, but I'll keep trying.

edit: I was able to update to ie9 and install the update successfully. Unless you think this issue had something to do with the blue screens go ahead and disregard it.

Nah, I don't think IE would cause you BSODs. I do stand to be corrected though.

Alright so I think I've narrowed down the problem. I tested the memory sticks individually in the a1 ram slot and both had no bsods (the first stick was in for five days, the second was in for two). Then I put stick1 (the 5 day bsod free one) into the a2 slot and there was a bsod after a few hours, then I put it in the b2 slot and it bsod almost immediatly. So as of now it looks like the motherboards ram slots are the problem.

I was wondering, if the a1/b1 slots are both fine, would putting the ram in those slots be OK even though it wouldn't take advantage of dual channel memory? Would there be a performance decrease? I hate the idea of replacing the motherboard again because of needing to reinstall everything and potentially have to deal with microsoft for windows verification.

edit: I'll test the a2/b2 slots w/ stick2 just to make sure it isn't in fact the memory stick.
Question: Is it likely that if 1 of the a2/b2 slots fail, the other is more likely to be bad. Reading around, it seems more likely that a memory stick is bad than two ram slots on the board. I just want to be careful because since this problem is similar to the one w/ the previous board, I want to be confident it isn't the memory.
