    iastor.sys related BSOD

This started yesterday when I began having issues with Bitdefender.

Attached is the memory.dmp and the SF diagnostic file.

BSOD has occured during a recovery operation as well as randomly.

I have checked my SATA driver and it is up to date. I did go to the intel site and several other driver updates are available but I'm not sure if I should update them.

BSOD occurs randomly, sometimes as often as every 5 minutes.

Thank you for your time and attention with this issue.

    Welcome

iaStor.sys belongs to the storage drivers for the controller on the motherboard.
BUT, it also rears it's ugly head in a BSOD if you are infected with some variants of the TDSS rootkit.
There are other, less likely causes, but these are the 2 most common.

Try this free tool to see if you are infected with TDSS: How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)? (it'll run in Safe Mode). If you are, and it still doesn't boot, you're in for some gyrations to get it to work (running multiple virus removal tools and multiple commands with bootrec and Startup Repair - that work in most (but not all) cases.

See if you can update the Storage drivers in Safe Mode (some installers will allow this) - and try the storage drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com to make sure you get the most current version.

We can troubleshoot this further, but if it's the rootkit you're best off with wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows.

To do this it's essential that you:
    - backup your stuff (and scan it with an antivirus)
    - find the restore disks for your system (not the restore partition on the hard drive)
    - wipe the drive (to include all freespace) with either DBAN or KillDisk (both are free with a Google search)
    - install Windows.

Thank you. I actually want to do a clean install of Windows 7. BUT, I';m having problems figuring out how to do it from a usb. I used the Windows 7 USB tool but when I get to "install now" I'm told there are no drives available to install it on. I was stuck doing a recovery operations from f11, though this was less than perfect for me.

I actually went to the download center and it told me my storage drivers were all up to date, but there were other updates available for other hardware.

Going to continue research and try to get this figured out. Thank you.

Those are the tutorials that I used. I get it as far as "install now" after it boots from the usb. When it asks me where to install the OS, there are no drives found.

Check for newer BIOS update on the Support Downloads webpage for your model. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3744230

Enter BIOS setup to check that your HD's are detected, reset BIOS to default, remove any RAID configuration, set SATA controller to AHCI mode, Save changes and exit.

Remove all but one HD and any peripherals.

Trigger installer using one-time HP Boot Menu by tapping at boot the ESC or F9 key.

If HD isn't seen wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command, then if necessary create, format and mark Active an NTFS Primary partition as shown in Step 2.2 in SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you have files to rescue do that before unRAIDing from the step in tutorial above.
