Possibly, and especially so when we're dealing with a brand new system that's unstable on day 1. Your best bet is to just RMA the sucker for a replacement and not have to deal with spending so much time and effort diagnosing this. Ask that the system be replaced and not repaired, as often times you'll go through several repairs before they finally end up replacing the part that's bad. With a replacement it's just one clean fix with a brand new laptop. Tell them what you've told us and they should be compliant.
