I've had this same problem. It was driving me nuts. All I knew is I would wake up from idle, and be froze. Could move the mouse, but couldnt get Windows 7 to do anything or respond and had to reboot. Thankfully this thread made it so I could leave my computer on. I have just set the auto-hide to be off.
I installed the latest Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB974431). Even though this made no mention of fixing this issue, it seemed to have worked for me. Has anyone else tested?
yeah, i have this problem as well, and I also have the above update. i hope they fix this soon, as not having the taskbar auto hide is rather annoying.
yeah this occurs with or without the latest ATI drivers installed. i suspect it's because my video card is old now and considered legacy, so there's no official Windows 7 drivers for it yet.
Ill bump this because there are some missconeptions.
for most (all?):
Changing drivers does not matter.
Updating to all hotfixes (also semi offical ones) does not matter, sometimes it seems like some hotfix fixes issue for "sleep or two", but it eventualy comes back
Fresh install, with default MS drivers only no other software only change you do is to decrease sleep time (for speed up testing) and turn on autohide task bar OR fully usable system with software and drivers - does not matter
ATI or nVidia does not matter
Intel chipset with Intel CPU or AMD chipset with AMD cpu (some notebook) does not matter
1GB of ram or 6GB no difference
basickly its issue with acpi/windows explorer that still isnt fixed till today and everyone can get. OH THE JOY! Lets all go spam MS customer support! I WANT MY AUTOHIDE TASKBAR BACK!!!
however i noticed something today (since new updates where released yesterday did clean reformat and decided to test this issue again), im having G15 keyboard with LED display and noticed today that if during autohide taskbar and sleep CPU does not idle (usage is around 20-25%). And desktop is frozen until CPU does not idle.
edit: this 2nd thing might be unreleated, because i have high cpu usage for a while with taskbar shown as well. However since this is happening during monitor sleep i have no idea what process is causing it.
