Oh, and I'm so happy
I finally got my main Windows 7 rig back up and running. It was a corrupt MBR
But I had to wait an entire month cause I'd encrypted the system partition with Truecrypt

So, is there anything that you can still help me with?
BSODs stopped happening for now, though...
Hi Justin,
What issues are you still having? The SP1 problem?
Try renaming this folder:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributionOLD
Then reboot, and run Windows Update :)
Tom
Can't.
It won't allow me to do it, even though I have full permissions and have taken ownership of it :P
Let's try this then:
Step 4: Rename the Software Distribution folder on your PC
- Stop the Automatic Updates service
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
- Right-click the Automatic Updates service, and then click Stop.
- Minimize the Services snap-in.
- If the error message that you received contains the code 0x80072f8f, the problem is most likely caused by an incorrect date or time setting on your PC.
- Rename the SoftwareDistribution directory as follows:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- Type cd %windir%, and then press Enter.
- Type ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp, and then press Enter.
- Type exit, and then press Enter.
- Start the Automatic Updates service as follows:
- Maximize the Services snap-in.
- Right-click Automatic Updates service, and then click Start.
- Close the Services snap-in window.

There is no Automatic Update service :P
This is VISTA, plz remember.
Is it the Windows Update service?
EDIT: Stopped Windows Update service and successfully renamed. Doing SP1 now.
Nope, SP1 still installs SUCCESSFULLY (well, it seems at first), but nothing happens :P
It "succeeds" instantly, :P
Hmm, that's odd. One last thing to try:
Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (KB936330) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Tom
Have tried that before
Didn't work before, but am trying again now.
Hope for the best :)
EDIT: Well, it went to about halfway in approximately 5 minutes, then went back to the start (empty bar, no indication other than that) and was stuck there :P
So I ended it.

Hi Justin,
I'm all out of ideas I'm afraid. Unless another member has something else to offer, I'm going to have to recommend that you do a clean install.
