Randomly occurring BSOD (STOP: 0x0000003B)

Hi,

I've had my current computer for about a year now, and for the first time yesterday a BSOD appeared. It seemed to happen randomly whilst I was waiting for a game I play (The Sims 3) to update. Other than the update window nothing else was running except for background applications.

It came up with the following error:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
STOP: 0x0000003B (0x00000000C000001D, 0xFFFFF880083B9F02, 0xFFFFF88008A067A0, 0x0000000000000000)

Underneath this code, a file named "mfefirek.sys" is mentioned. I'm not sure if this means anything.

I didn't have my computer set to make small memory dump files at the time, so I could only find one DMP file in my Windows/Minidump folder and I'm not sure if it will be of any use to you as I can't tell what it actually contains. However, I've attached it anyway!

I have also attached a .zip file containing the results of the SF Diagnostic Tool.

Since the first BSOD at 9pm last night (it's 10am now), I haven't had another one. But I have a feeling that whatever problem there is still hasn't been fixed.

Any advice is appreciated!

It means McAfee

You are the victim of the most frequent BSOD causer on earth.

Get rid of McAfee using McAfee Removal Tool, and then install Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows.

Report us back with the results. Hopefully there will be no more BSODs.

I use a program called BT NetProtect Plus, which is apparently linked to McAfee (it has the same logo). I tried using the removal tool you linked me to, but I'm not sure if the program has actually been uninstalled as there are still folders and files linked to it in my Programs Files x64 folder.

Is there any way of wiping it from my system manually?

Also, do the files I attached in my original post indicate any additional problems, or is it all caused by this McAfee driver?

ETA: I also am unable to find BT NetProtect Plus or McAfee in my installed programs list, though the shortcut is still on my desktop.

If those are not in the installed programs list, most probably they are uninstalled. Still, for making it sure, go to control panel> programs and features. If they are there, uninstall those there. If they are not there, delete all the leftovers manually.

Your crash dump (only one was there) did not show any additional cause other than McAfee.

Let us know if it still crashing or not, after uninstalling McAfee.

I ran the removal tool again & rebooted and from what I can see, McAfee is no longer installed. Hopefully this will be the fix that I needed!

Thanks for your help! If a BSOD happens again in the next few days I'll leave another post on here.
