There was no crash this morning, it's usually crashed by the time I get off of work. I'll check again this evening.

Is there any kind of event logger in windows 7 that can tell me when the resolution was changed?

Most probably not. Still I am asking others, if they can answer it better.

I'd have to agree with Arc. It doesn't appear that Event Viewer maintains any info about screen resolution. It's possible that some other software (maybe 3rd party) would record such info but I'm not aware of it. I guess another possibility would be if a restore point had been manually created when the screen resolution was changed.

One thing to try if you haven't done already is to disable the on-chip Intel HD Graphics 4000, IGPU in your UEFI. Disable Virtu too it attempts to SLI the HD4000 and the GPU card.

This may help if you have further issues:
Try these steps to install only the graphics driver.

1.Download the preferred driver and save it to the desktop.
2.Double click the installer and you will see a screen where it will be extracted to, change that to your desktop.
3.Open Device Manager through Control Panel.
4.Expand Display adapters and right click the name for yours and choose Update Driver\Browse my Computer. Select the driver folder you just saved on the desktop. Click Next.
    5. Your system should say "Windows has successfully updated your driver software".

If you get a window saying you already have the most current driver, go back to step 4 and choose Uninstall Driver software instead. Then restart from step 3.

Well gang, the crash problem seems to have gone away. It normally would have happened by now. Some combination of the suggestions here did the trick! Thank you to all.
