Windows 7 32bit ultimate Freezes after login screen

ok re installed windows on a new internal HDD and brought some of my files along activated win 7 with the key and word 2010 too no problems so far just lots of updates

Did you even bother with trying to clone the old drive to the new? Or did you try and find it wouldn't clone?

In some cases it's really better to just go ahead with the reinstall anyway. If it was an old install and had seen its share of abuse over the years, or if the clone had trouble making a perfect copy, you would simply be transferring your old problems to your new drive. So you'd still have to go about fixing all of those issues, which you may or may not be successful with. With a reinstall the machine will perform like it did when it was new, maybe even better if you don't include the OEM's software that it may have come with.

Were you successful in getting all of your data off of the old drive?

yes i tried to clone but it kept failing so i just dragged pics, music, and other important files then took a screenshot of how the desktop should look like and tried to make it as close as possible.

the old drive is out of the pc and the new WD one is in i never deleted the old HDD cause i was going to try and boot it up with the new HDD in and drag and drop over.

yea i couldnt find the other dell drivers and program cd so i just had the win 7 install cd and Key with me

Great to hear you've got it up and running again!

If you've got no place in your machine to install your old drive to allow you to copy the rest of your data, you can purchase a hard drive enclosure that's compatible with your drive that you can connect via USB or you can purchase an inexpensive but simple and versatile SATA/PATA to USB adapter.
