    random BSOD's and Explorer crashes

    Well Thanx for helping.

I was redirected here from another thread I made regarding explorer crashes that occur very often now (several times a day).

Next to that I have a BSOD about once a month. I can't recall exactly when the BSOD's started so I can't link it to an installation or update. And it just don't happen very often.

Now the main problem that's getting very annoying are the explorer.exe crashes.

It started about two/three weeks ago when I wanted to open a folder I just downloaded. I was given the message that Explorer stopped working, looking for a solution ...... And off it went.

Well, no solution given at any time of this occuring.

I first thought that it must have been an infected download so I tried to delete it, but every time I clicked on the folder explorer quit. So I took all other files and folders and deleted the folder one level up.

I've done that twice now because other folders are starting to give the same problem.

I read that someone has linked his problem to .mkv files, but I'm not sure about that. I also read that it might be linked to context menu items especialy DivX-stuff, but I dont have those, or disabled them without result.

Untill now I've tried whole system security scan with MS Essentials, several file and folder scans and never found a wrong file. I've tried the sfc /scannow as was suggested somewere but nothing cam out of that.

I also downloaded ShellExView and disabled all non MS things there. But nothing helped.

So when I was posting that all this didn't solve my problem I was suggested that both my problems are connected and that I start here.

I downloaded the SF Diagnostic tool and hope my logs will give someone all info to help me

I will be really greatful if this is solved

    Hello FinnBo.

    update the network driver.
    Code:
     lmvm rt64win7
    start end module name
    fffff880`04044000 fffff880`040e4000 Rt64win7 T (no symbols)

First, download the network card driver from manufactuer's website Realtek
    Then reinstall the driver:

    1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
    3. Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
    4. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
    5. Restart the computer
    6. If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually.

    Update display driver.
    Code:
    lmvm atikmpag
    start end module name
    fffff880`03c00000 fffff880`03c61000 atikmpag T (no symbols)

Get it from AMD Graphics Drivers & Software.

The network driver installation went ok, but I already had the latest graphics drivers installed just a few weeks ago so I didn't do that one (yet).

As I said the BSOD's aren't frequently enough to experience instantly improvement. The explorer crashes did stop, but I also un-and re-installed MPC HC and it's codecs. Because I followed the lead on the .mkv suggestion. I found out that the folders on which explorer crashed did contain .mkv's. These are all connected with MPC so just to be sure I re-installed that one and no problems after that....... (cross my fingers)

I do think it weird that this just pop's up like that. No real alterations were made to the PC, just regular MS-updates

So I think I will wait to do the graphics drivers if trouble returns

Realy thanks for looking into the logs, I hope that someone else can benefit from my explorations into solving this problem.

Explorer crashing on a folder containing mkv files? And the mkv files are associated with MPC HC?

OK, install Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs. When the installation is done, run the program as administrator. In the main page, look at the bottom. there is a checkbox ... "shark007 suggested settings". Check it, wait for it to be configured.

Now, go back to that folder containing mkv files. Is it still crashing? Let us know.

Or, just install VLC to play mkv files. VLC is great. It will also get you out of those explorer crashes.

I shouldn't have said anything. The BSOD just happened. I was transporting a file to my tablet with USB and searching on internet. Nothing special.

No problems with explorer till now
