BSOD after starting up Pro Tools 10

    Good evening everyone:

I hope some kind tech people can help me out here. I have a custom built DAW (digital audio workstation), built in 2008, which has been very reliable for the past couple of years, even though it is getting a bit old.

To make a long story short, since yesterday I have been getting blue screens of death when trying to start up Pro Tools (I am on the lastest upgrade, 10.3.0). All my other software is still running fine (Sibelius 6 and 7, Eastwest Quantumleap virtual instruments, Native Instruments Komplete, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Suite).

I am not very technical but I carefully followed the instructions of the forum, and I have an error log which I will attach. Here are the specifications of my DAW: windows 7, quad core processor, 8 GB ram, 4 internal hard drives. Soundcard is M Audio 2626 profire, I currently have two monitors (loudspeakers, JBL 2328) and one video monitor attached.

    Many thanks,

    Peter

ps I cannot upload any file it seems - I tried to compress the error log but even installing winzip seems to take hours.

I have a recording studio using Sonar X2 and Pro Tools MP9. I would suspect something in Pro Tools rather than a PC problem, since everything else is apparently working.

Start PT without the Profire device connected (or powered on) and see what happens. Obviously PT will not detect a recording interface unit, but it may help in diagnosing what is wrong. Reinstalling the last PT10 update is another option.

Oh - reinstalling the latest M Audio driver did the trick. Many thanks for the feedback! I am back in business.

For the record, I attach the zipped BSOD files that I created last night. Should I uninstall the BSOD error reporting software, or can it do no harm? In general I like to keep my DAW as much free of software I don't need as possible.

    Thanks again,

    Peter

I've found device drivers can be a big problem in Pro Tools. I had a 30 day trial version of PT10 and had a lot of problems getting a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 (certified as Pro Tools 10 compatible) connected in PT10. Only after help from Sweetwater Music's tech department did I finally get it to work with the Saffire Pro 40.
