Windows Defender Offline has been run. It didn't ask me what kind of scan, it just did a quick scan. Came back with no threats. Not sure if I should be doing the full scan.

I had a total of 13 traps on 12/19/12 in normal windows and in safe mode.

I unplugged my external backup drive from the 2.0 usb port so I could access info on my laptop.

I have not had a trap since removing that cable from the port. When I removed the cable 3 weeks ago (page 3 post #24) from that same port the traps seemed to stop. I then put the cable back about a week later (post #56 on page 6) and still had no problems. Until things started going bad again on 12/11.

I just wanted to document that I now have had no traps for about 2 hours.

    Firewall still not up, tho.

Bill, can you send me that Malwarebytes link again. Somehow the one in your post took me elsewhere. Thank you!

I saw on another sevenforum a suggestion on how to start BFE. I followed the instructions to download http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/MiniFixes/RestoreBFE.exe
When I rebooted, BFE and the Firewall are running!

I did trap this morning. It may have been because i was moving the computer slightly while it was rebooting.

I have a question. When i get the black screen with white lettering that recommends startup repair, should i select that? I have avoided it because of all the changes I have been making. I don't know that going back to a restore point will help and I won't know which restore point it will use.

Corrected link in previous post, in case others try it. Just go back there and click on the Malwarebyts link - it should take you to the correct place this time.

How embarrasing =:> Hopefully I put the correct link back to the previous post.

    yeah, everything seems to work

Side note: a full scan should always be launched with all anti-Malware products (MSE, Malwarebytes, etc) - just don't run them at the same time, run one then the next.
