kind of BSOD - BD116 playing witcher 2 after PC major upgrade

    Hi guys!

I'm very desperate at this point... I just don't know what to do!

So saturday I bought a new MoBo and Processor for my Geforce GTX 560 to use CAD softwares and gaming. But as I played witcher 2 or darksouls (both on stupid steam) I got this weird crash:
After 1 minute or so of gamplay (note that the game plays flawlessy and in high configuration) the display goes black ( that's why the "kind of BSOD" ) and the system restarts. Attached you can find the minidumps and other infos..

PS1: I did manage to play yesterday after reinstalling everything possible, drivers, windows update, CCleaner, you name it!.. but when I tested witcher 2, stupid steam installed directx 11 and there goes hours of work gone! I tried to restore to a previous restore point but no avail. The max temperature I got for the GPU while playing Darksouls yesterday was 60șc.

PS2: I had no problem playing darksouls on my crappy previous system. I played 44 hours of witcher 2, but not on high settings of course.

PS3: I'm aware that this problem could be hardware, so I took it to a local PC shop and the guy did all the memory, GPU, PSU(wattage, voltage) test, so that basically narrows it down to drivers conflict.. I think.

    Please... what shall I do!?!??!

    Sorry for the "Bible" lol

Welcome aboard. It is stop 0x116, a graphics/display related crash.
    Code:

Follow the guide STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting step by step. If there is any question about it, let us know.

BTW, the "october 2" version of nvidia driver is problematic as I have experienced personally, and in debugging. You, as the starting point,

    • Download and install Driver Fusion.
    • Reboot the computer in Advanced Boot Options, safe mode. Search Driver Fusion in your start menu, and remove all components of your nVidia display driver.
    • Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Drivers > Beta and Legacy; search there with your cards particulars for GeForce 310.54 BETA driver, dated 12. 11.2012 and install it.

    Let us know the results.

Hi Archi! Thank you for your response..

I did what you told, but know it's kind of random, still error BD 116!
Funny thing, I tested Crysis 2 (on steam too) and it ran flawlessy, and super beautifuly. What can I still do? If my problem was hardware, I couldn't even play Crysis right?

I've reinstall windows too, Darksouls worked nice yesterday, now today the crash is happening all over again...

    What can I do!?

Hi Arc, I tested the sfc.exe on the cmd prompt command and everything is okay, I'll run Furmark now and let you know.
Also, I'm attaching the latest restore points on my computer, I think it's the damn DirectX not compatible with my card, I don't know...

Arc, I noticed a fast temp buildup and the GPU fan seems to let the card's temperature go 80c and still be in its 50% speed. I've used the Msi afterburner to maintain the fan 75% to lessen the heating as you can see in the printscreen.

Other than that, no stutter, no shutdown... at least not until now. What should I do next!?

DirectX in included in the display driver, I guess. So dont worry.

EDIT: As this setting is stable there, use it for the next time, and see what happens there.

Thanks for your help Arc, here is another pic of the test.
So, how do I solve this problem with steam games (excluding Crysis 2)?

Hi Arc. I decided to rearrange my internal PC components ( GPU, Drives..)
And I still have the bloody problem.

Please, what can I do then?
