    Hi Arc,

I'm at the office but will check when I get home. There will most certainly be video files in My Docs folder.

    Why do ask?

Coz, the explorer crash causes due to a various reasons. One of the most frequent cause is it fails to handle the filetype containing in a particular folder, and when the user is trying to access that folder, explorer crashes. As in your case it is occurring in a particular folder only.

Moreover, among the filetypes, video files are the most vulnerable, coz we use third party codecs to handle those, to generate thumbnails etc. So here comes the next question:

What is the codec pack you use? Klite? Media player classic? Or anything else?

Much dat in my documents? Try to copy/paste to test folder. After that test if test folder has same problem. If so remove a folder there and test again...etc. Post results

Yes, but if those copy/paste action may be done without crashing the explorer, as that folder is already somehow inaccessible due to explorer crashes I guess.

Congrats on 4000 posts kaktussoft :)

Can be done as well in "safe mode", "recovery environment" or even "command prompt". Copy hidden files as well!

If my assumption is right (we are to wait for the OP's response to be sure; it may be wrong though, it is just a situation based assumption and its validity depends on verification), there are much easier ways to do it.

    Hi,

I dont want to jump to conclusions but I did download MediaMonkey, then unistalled it the following day because I didnt really like it. This happened around the same time as I installed a lot of windows updates which had became available and installed MS Project 2007.

Surely, the codecs would be removed during the uninstallation?

Uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Freeware. Hopefully those will go. BTW, dont you use any other third party codecs or player?

Install Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs, after installation, apply "shark007 suggested settings".

    Is it changing anything there?

Edit: Is MS Project set to be the default application for anything? As a test, you may set as not default.

    Hi Kaktussoft,

I dont think I have many dat files in that folder, but will check when I get home. I meant to say earlier, last night my win explorer was also crashing when exploring My Computer too. I can 'explore' folders and it varies how long I get before it crashes.
