    BSOD issues recurring for months - C5, D1, 8E

    Hi,

I've been having BSOD's for several months now and have have been trying to fix them all. Thus far I have identified and fixed a few of them (some driver issues and crashes from Avast!), but have been unable to fix one that continues to occur. Here are some of the things I have tried:
    - Anti-virus scans & rootkit scans from several different programs. I don't think it is a virus.
    - Memory tests w/ memtest86 and windows memory diagnostic tool - all clean.
    - Updated Intel & Lenovo drivers; Windows 7 up to date.
    - HD tests with SeaGate tools - clean; chkdisk and related HD tools - clean.

The following information may be relevant:
    - I updated a Intel wireless driver on 11/20/2012 which may have caused the corresponding BSOD.
    - BSOD's often occur while browsing the internet (note that I do spend a majority of my time on the internet, so this may not be a cause). I've had one when using ms word, and the most recent one occured while I was not interacting with my machine.
    - The aswSP.SYS BSOD's should have been fixed with Avast's most recent patch
    - Several months ago I reclaimed 30GB from my HD that used to be part of a Ubuntu partition. I used the windows partition tool to do so.
    - Sometimes Windows reports incorrect size usage for the HD. For example, I deleted my temp files which Windows said was 12Gb, but windows indicated that I only gained 2Gb of space from this. Apparently this phenomena is due to some windows backup features.
    - My Intel Matrix Storage Driver is up to date (8.9.2.1002, a release maintained by Lenovo)

My machine is ~3.5 yrs old. Some of the stack traces suggest HD issues, but as I mentioned above all of the HD checker tools came up clean. My HD is backed up.

My attachment contains several dumps, but as I mentioned before some of them have been addressed. The four most recent ones that occurred in November are the ones that are most pertinent to the problem.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Welcome aboard, Mark.

Get rid of intel rapid storage.

    1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
    2. It will open the "computer management" window.
    3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
    4. Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
    5. Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
    6. Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
    7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.

    Do some disc Checks.

    1. Update your SSD's Firmware (Skip it, if it is not a SSD)
    2. Reseat the sata and power.
    3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
    4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

One Intel Driver also needs to be updated.
    Code:
    807e2924 a2b2e110Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\NETwNs32.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for NETwNs32.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for NETwNs32.sys
     NETwNs32+0x707110
Get it from Intel Download Center

    Let us know the results.

Get rid of intel rapid storage.
Only one driver was listed - ST9160411AS from Microsoft published 6/12/2006 version 6.1.7600.16385. I uninstalled it. After restarting, Windows automatically configured and reinstalled the same driver.

    Do some disc Checks
I ran these after the step above, all clean. I also reseated the HDD.

One Intel Driver also needs to be updated.
It appears my driver is up to date (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN version 14.3.2.1). Support for the driver for my wireless card was dropped in the most recent versions indicated at Intel Wireless LAN (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad and http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...20Applications. I ran the repair utility contained within the installer from the second link.

It may be a couple of days before the next BSOD, so I will not immediately know if doing those things have worked or not.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Removing the intel rapid storage driver appears to have done the trick. Thank you.
