BSOD on return from sleep mode

I saw an I5 with 8GB ram and 1TB HDD going for NZ$650.00 (about £325.00).
I got the missus an I3 with similar capacity last year from the same source for NZ$500.00, so I hope the I5 will still be available after Xmas.

Was watching movie and halfway through got BSOD. No other symptoms.

Posting this using my dad's ID because I got banned when trying to create my own.

So you are now HairyScott's son? :) Dont worry, as the account was tried to be created using the same computer and there was some other similarities, it was blocked. Nothing else.

Is it the same computer that crashed that your dad uses?

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Alcohol 120% at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

• Double click to open it.
• Click this button only:
• 
• If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Then, Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

Let us know the results. There may be something more to do, but if it the same computer that your dad uses, you need to take his permission before making the changes we may suggest later, depending on the situation. Also, may we know your age? :)

Number 2 son recently moved back home for the holidays.
He is 22 and has his own PC, but all of the PCs connect to the same router so I guess that from the outside we all get the same IP?
There may indeed be some similarities: like father like son.

He was merely using my forum id because of the difficulties he encountered when trying to register his own.
In any case, we may have found a simple cause for the problem: looks like the drive holding the videos has failed, and since it is a brand new PC, a trip to the store is now the plan.

Interesting that you suggest Alcohol 120 is the cause.
Are you suggesting that we should not use that type of product?
I'd have thought that if it consistently caused BSOD there would be disclaimers all over the shop.

I rarely use the mount capability of Alcohol 120 since VLC Media Player handles image files and there are also tools like MakeMKV.
Only have 1 virtual drive and always eject after use. I don't use the "remount at boot" option at all.

Loose wire in one of the power connectors. Hopefully that was the cause of the BSOD.
HDDs all OK.

BTW
I replaced my old AMD with an Intel I5.
Local store had boxing day specials. Price was so good we bought two, one for me and one for number 2 son. :)
