i'm not sure it will, but you can try.
does the computer BSOD in safe mode otherwise or just when trying to scan?

Just when scanning otherwise it freezes
Will do. I am going to be away from my computer for a few days (vacation) but will let you know after a day or two of testing. Thank you very much for all of your help
Hey thanks for all of your help :) I figured out that it was indeed a faulty RAM stick. I will be replacing it soon thanks!
Thanks,

MSE just refused to turn on real time protection just then. Checked for any other virus software I may have installed recently inadvertently, nothing there. Ran an sfc /scannow- no problems there. So I restarted and everything is fine again. I was thinking about running a safe mode system scan as I recently heard about this, but not sure now I have read this thread. Last thing I need is another BSOD right now. I need to tidy up my computer a bit soon. Is BSOD while performing this a considerable risk? Is MSE still the best virus software to use on Windows 7?
