BSOD when connecting computer to the tv

Hello. I am having an issue with BSOD's whenever I connect my computer to my tv using an HDMI cable. How do I solve this so I can hook up my computers display to the tv? Thank you.

I am trying to connect my VGA computer to my DVI-D TV. Here is what I tried that I thought would work: VGA male to DVI-A adapter, which then goes into a DVI Female cable, where the other end was DVI-D, which plugged into the tv. Why did it not work? What can I do differently?
