I found a new motherboard and installed it. The computer has now been running for over 72 hours without a reboot. It could not go 36 hours previously, and rarely would go 24. The bios came with the new board, but the processor was moved from the old board.

Speccy, I'm out of town and away from my office. I have the receipt for the mb archived in my office and I'll find it when I get there - Thursday, Apr 4th. I still haven't posted the pictures of the disassembly, but I plan on doing that as well. In the meantime, I sold the laptop to my brother and I'll be setting it up for him over the next couple days. Since he's my brother, if it hiccups, I'll know about it.
Rustycannon, I know this thread is kind of old at this point but I'm having the same issue with my Asus U56E laptop. It randomly reboots with no BSOD or any dump files. I have a thread going on this site with no resolution. The fact that you replaced the motherboard and the problem went away has given me some hope. I went to the website you indicated, serversupply.com. There are 5 motherboards listed when I search for U56E, do you know which one is the right one? Which one did you purchase?
Danny, my receipt says that I purchased the: 60-N6KMB3000-C06
Incidentally, I believe there is a sticker on the motherboard between the memory card sockets that has this number on it. I think my original one was a 60-N6KMB3000-C05. You will probably have to get the motherboard out of the computer in order to read that sticker.

If it's between the memory cards slots those are accessible along with the hard drive by removing 3 screws and a small panel. I'll take a look when I get home. Can you confirm that the new motherboard fixed the problem? I wish would have returned mine during the warranty period. Your model numbers were different but it didn't have any effect? Anyway thanks for your help and quick response.
I think the difference in numbers was because of an update to the board. Seems like I did some searching and found a compatibility chart somewhere, maybe at the ASUS website? I don't remember now.
Yes, it is still working. My brother has it and uses it daily and it has not failed.
I think you are correct about having to remove the motherboard to see the sticker. Under the small panel where the ram is located there are some sticker but none that resemble the motherboard numbers. I will probably take another look but seemingly the last 2 numbers in the model do not make that much difference. Thanks so much for your help. I'll let you how it turns out.
Are the model numbers sequential? Is C06 the newest version of the board?
