    Random BSOD crashes


    Hi,

    I am getting random BSOD, there is no particular reason I can think of. The changes I made in past 2 weeks are adding a 4Gb memory module and taking an old hard disk from my previous computer and adding it. I performed memory and hard disk tests but there were no errors.

    Usual causes:  Device driver, System DLL corruption, Faulty hardware in I/O path (a disk error, faulty RAM, or a corrupted page file), BIOS
    Run some hard-drive diagnostics and follow these steps:

    Find your hard-drive manufacturer and run their tests.

    Additional Tests:

    Post a screenshot of Crystal Disk Info summary:

    Make sure you have the latest firmware for SSD, and ensure all the SATA and Power cables are connected to the drive.

    Check for any file system errors and bad sectors using Option #2 of:

    Use this command with Disk Check:

    Memory:

    Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferably overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

    Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

    Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

    Did the BSOD occur straight or soon after you added the new RAM?

    Post a screenshot of your Resource Monitor:

    Have you checked the RAM is compatible with the motherboard? Is the RAM installed in the right slots?

    Remove:

    Start Menu\Programs\Free Registry Cleaner
    Registry Cleaners are not needed for Windows 7, and tend to cause serious damage to the registry and the operating system.

    Scan for any missing or corrupted protected Windows files:

    I downloaded the tools from manufacturer and while running these tools it rebooted again and I got a new error in my BSOD screen "IRQL not less or equal". So I have removed my new RAM (PNY 4 GB single Dimm) and am left with my original 1 GB corsair modules and the computer rebooted just fine. I have already updated the my video drivers and Motherboard BIOS. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your replies and time spent in helping me. Appreciate it.

    As suggested I have removed the registry cleaner and ran sfc command and no errors were found.

    Run a full scan with:

    Are you using ReadyBoost? If so, I suggest you disable it:

    Remove your current RAM, and then insert your new RAM, and check if the computer is able to boot properly.

    Hi,

    Its been 3 days now and I don't see the BSOD issue anymore. Even though I checked the specs of my mother board before installing new RAM, apparently something went wrong. I am no longer using my new RAM and back to old RAM everything is fine now. Thanks for helping me out.
