    BSOD When playing or browsing 0x124


    Hi,

    So since I got my new graphic card 2 months ago (660gtx) I get some 0x124 BSOD very often.

    First some backgrounds:
    Last year I bought a 560ti and I had an artifacts (Borderland 2 graphical artefacts 560ti - YouTube) issue with it, I exchanged it one time with no changes and the second one was tried hours without any issue on other computers without malfunctioning (by me and also by gigabyte).
    Unable to find why the 560ti gave me artifacts only on this pc I got myself a 660gtx and now I get some 0x124 Bsods . I can't help but those issues have a common cause (but maybe this time the GC have issues).

    BSODs are much more frequent while playing, like 2 times tonight on CS:Go but I also had some with only Firefox launched.
    I formated my pc last month (and removed dust) but it didn't solve the crashes. With a fresh install and nothing launched except a game (AC3) I got a bsod.

    edit: Almost forgot, I did a pass of memtest86+ with nothing, I'll try to do more when I can.


    Any help would be great.

    So I looked at the "Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try" Thread:

    1) I didn't Overclock a thing (well except for the 660gtx being factory OCed like all Nvidia nowadays), Ram is using XMP profile and I didn't touch my i7 default settings.

    2) Cooling is ok, I cleaned everything recently and all fans are working.

    3) All drivers are up to date.

    4) I'm using the latest non-beta bios available (I had issues when trying the beta one)

    6) I only did a pass of memtest, I'll try doing more and a checkdisk as soon as possible.

    7) I did a windows re-installation, as soon as I started playing I got 0x124 again. It wasn't full vanilla since I did install drivers before trying to play.

    edit: got a bsod in less than a minute with Prime95 in blended mode, if it can help.

    Anyone got an idea ?

    Since my post I updated my bios to the lastest beta one (not the one I tested before), I still get those crashes.

    Hi,

    All i am able to tell you at this point is that it is pointing towards Hardware issues, either Graphics card or processor related perhaps.

    Did the BSOD's occur everytime you were on Steam? Steam is responsible for your last 2 crashes!!
    Or rather Counter Strike Global Offensive.

    Assassin Creed 3 game for the next two crashes.

    You may need to disable multi-core rendering in the options on your steam account.

    Try that and get back and I will see if I can help further, if not I will ask a member of the BSOD to assist.

    Also, my sons play CSS and use steam...I had a few issues with one of the nivdia graphics cards and I re-installed both Steam and CS:GO, and this resolved the issue, this might also help with your issue or at least eliminate this as a cause.

    Worth a try at this point!

    But the fact is that the problem started when you changed graphics card points more towards Graphics issues, coupled with the fact that all your crashes relate to hardware and games you play.

    So for the Processor hardware issue - possible multi-core rendering issues, game settings, (or other processor issues).
    For the graphics - possible issues mentioned below, overclocking problem (the 660gtx being factory OCed) , incorrect driver or a possible card malfuntion.

    Or perhaps a combintation of both.

    If non of these sort your issue I will ask an expert from the BSOD to look at your crash dumps and see if they can assist you further.

    Hi Algent,

    I asked a member of the BSOD team to look at the logs, which he kindly has, and has confirmed
    it looks like it is a processor related issue.

    Internal unclassified error
    GCACHEL2_DWR_ERR ( L2 cache error)
    You have already updated your bios...

    So you could try ( if you havent already):

    Removing the processor, clean and add a fresh thermal paste, re-assemble and check again.

    Also can you please post a snapshot of HDD SMART using CrystalDiskinfo:

    Let us know any progress.

    Hi,

    Your snapshot of HDD SMART looks normal :)

    Please post back once you have carried out the Processor / Thermal paste repair....I would imagine the processor pins are fine, this is to ensure that the processor is adequately cooled.

    Also please inform of any further BSOD's.

Hello, Recently for Christmas I decided to upgrade my gaming rig, everything was going fine until around Janurary where I've been plagued with BSOD errors. They are quite random and have been happening while gaming, browsing and even just idling, there isn't really a pattern but I've noticed...
