    UPDATE

    I've run a separate memtest on each of the four memory sticks.

    One stick fails immediately the test begins with multiple red rows.

    Two sticks fail with one red error row each and these report back after 2 or 3 passes. On one occasion it reported back after 8 passes.!

    The remaining stick ran for two tests. Once for 7 passes and then for 10 passes without any errors. I ran this good stick in a different slot for each test.

    I've contacted the pc shop where I bought it. Sounds like three bad sticks.

    Sorry not to have posted earlier. The replacement RAM has solved the problems.

    It's amazing to think that 3 of the 4 ram sticks were faulty so I can only assume that I was unlucky.
