Hello folks!

I'm quite new to this forum as I just signed up today but I figured it was the best thing to do. I recently built a new computer and thought everything was running smoothly until I started encountering strange occurrences of programs stop responding or crashing. One that is most particular is Google Chrome as I often get issues of my opened tabs getting the "Aw Snap!" leading the pages to crash especially when I refresh them they will crash right away.

I also started noticing that my computer was not fully stable when I was playing Guild Wars 2 and often the game will crash. This kept occurring leading me to contact tech support at NCSoft to help with crash issues. We did not resolve the problem but we went through the process of getting all my drivers up to date (which they already were prior to playing the game).

I finally checked my BIOS version and did some research on the latest firmware and thus I flashed to the most recent version. After doing this I have not experienced any BSODs or crashing in Guild Wars 2 for two days straight.

Today however, I started experiencing similar symptoms to what I had described before in Google Chrome as well as Windows Explorer randomly stop responding. I've encountered 3 BSODs today and all of which occurred while Google Chrome was open.

-the first BSOD happened while I was watching a video on YouTube while having another tab open on the YouTube front page-- I noticed the YouTube front page tab had the "Aw Snap!" crash and few seconds following, the video that was playing on the current tab also crashed.

-the second and third BSOD also happened while Google Chrome was open but on these two I was trying to run the SF Diagnostic Tool provided on the forums. The diagnostic tool would get half way through the process and then suddenly BSOD.

Finally, I run the diagnostic tool for the third time but with Chrome not opened and it followed through successfully so here I am posting about this issue.

I've opened up my .dmp files to inspect the issue and all three of them refer to MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) excluding the .dmp created on 1/22/13 which points to a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) this was prior to my BIOS flash.

Please, if anyone can help in solving this issue I would greatly appreciate it!

@Layback Bear: that is no problem Layback. I thank you for your efforts and I have tried all those solutions two days ago.

Alright guys, I ran into my 4th BSOD of the day. This one occurred as I was shutting down my computer. The latest .dmp file is pointing SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) which is one I had on 1/22/13.

When I start up Chrome this time around-- all my opened tabs have all crashed, the usual "Aw Snap!". I try re-opening Chrome and everything is still under crashed status. So I am posting this from IE.

Here is the updated .zip with all the info gathered by SF Diagnostics.

Just restarted my computer to run a Memtest86 and everything passes according to the results. Not sure if I should be paying any specific attention to anything from it. Also, upon this latest bootup, Chrome seems to be doing fine again. I try opening Zune software just to listen to music but upon opening it-- the program immediately stops responding and I have to close it. Just these small occurrences where things stop responding is quite annoying as well.

Anyway, if any BSOD experts can please view the latest .zip in post #3 I would greatly appreciate it!

Will update if any new BSODs come up...

Okay guys, just encountered the first BSOD of the day. To let you all know what I had done last night-- I ran Memtest86 before bed and I woke up this morning with 8 Passes finished with 0 errors read. I'm assuming there may not be anything wrong with the memory but the BSOD I ran into today is again pointing to MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a).

Prior to this BSOD, I was running a full system scan with MSE and in the midst of it, it said that MSE could not make a scan on my computer so I cancel the scan and run it again and then in the middle of the process I BSOD.

Upon inspection of the newly generated .dmp file I find this:

which I also noticed was apparent in one of the previous .dmp files. I researched what MsMpEng.exe is and it's something relating to Microsoft's antimalware which makes sense in this case seeing as I was trying to scan my computer with MSE at the time.

Before the scan though, I ran into an unusual error as this was the first time I've seen it happen but I noticed the display theme of my windows suddenly changed to the default Windows Classic. At first I thought it was a display driver error but I go to check Personalize on the Desktop menu and find that I'm unable to change to any themes as they were all grayed out. Few minutes later, my previous theme came back. I then noticed on my taskbar that the Microsoft Software Protection Platform Service stopped responding. Following that, everytime I open Windows Explorer-- the MSPPS will continue to pop up saying it stopped responding. I open up Chrome to try and do research on this problem and to no surprise all my Chrome tabs have crashed and stay crashed when I try re-opening. I run IE and do research there and answers point to Windows activation under Computer > Properties. I proceed to check my activation status and for some odd reason it states that my Windows activation is currently unavailable. I restart my computer and check the activation status again and it is back to normal with Windows activated and the Product ID visible again.

Right now, all I can think of is to reinstall Win7 entirely but would like to have input from any experts so I can try to diagnose the problem further before doing so. I'm not sure if the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) BSODs I've been experiencing are hardware or software related. I want to rule out hardware because of the Memtest86 results but I know that alone probably doesn't tell me everything. Attached is the latest SF Diagnostic Tool information...

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.

After reading this, I checked your pagefile size:
Page File Space 16.0 MB

For testing purposes, you may want to bump this up to say 1024 MB and see if the errors continue.

Thank you carwiz. So I've updated the paging file size like so:

Curious, do I need to set both the Initial and Max at 1024 or would adjusting Max alone be sufficient? And... should I put a paging file on my HDD (listed as D: REX in screenshot).

Hopefully this solves both SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a). Will keep udpated if any errors / BSODs occur.

I don't think you need it on the D: drive unless you keep programs or drivers on it. You should be able to just set Max at 1024 but still, 16MB pages are pretty small. This is just a test so set both (Min/Max) to 1024.

Urrrggghh... so frustrating. So I encountered yet again a BSOD with the new .dmp file pointing to again MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a).

After changing the page file to 1024MB programs seem to not go into the stop responding status. However, I decided to test this out more by opening additional programs simultaneously and noticed some would 'hang' so I went back to the page file settings and just bumped it up to what Windows was recommending which was 12 GB. After doing that, everything seemed to be running fine and I could multi-task different media (music, game, video in browser) with no problems. Guild Wars 2 was running smooth until I got a crash in the game. This happened multiple times so I contacted tech support again and I went through the process of reinstalling my GPU driver-- this is where the BSOD occurred (during a fresh installation of my NVIDIA drivers).

I had to reboot the computer of course, and followed through with the driver installation so now everything is fine in terms of my display settings. I open Chrome however and all the opened tabs are just 'hanging' on loading. Nothing crashing-- just stuck loading; so here I am again posting from IE. I'm going to try a fresh install of Chrome (perhaps by now, my current profile settings are corrupt).

With all the Memtest86 runs I've been doing and results pointing to no Errors in the RAM, I want to say there's nothing wrong with them but perhaps there really is? I read somewhere that Memtest86 alone couldn't guarantee error-free memory so who knows.

Here is latest zip. Any further input on the situation would be awesome :)

**EDIT: not sure if this will help, but I also took a screenshot of this from my Solve PC Issue(s). This was before BSOD.

I was careful about opening these with the Warning notice. If I scrolled down to see the other two problems-- it's just the same thing. This prompted me to do a full scan with MSE and Malwarebytes-- nothing shows up.
