Unpluging the power and moving the jumpers, or using the clear CMOS button will usually work, but the battery removal is probably the most sure fire way.

why not use a blank HD and do a quick clean install just to see if it will boot correctly without the DVD. That would be a good test, to make sure the problem is what you think it is.

Also, let it be known that, although I am rather Spock-like in my addiction to logic, I am also very lazy. Instead of crawling around on the floor to remove the CMOS battery, etc., I have opted to disconnect my SSD and install the OS to an extra HDD I have here. It's a totally unprofessional install in that I didn't disconnect all the other drives. Yep, too lazy to crawl around on the floor.

What I hope to learn: Well, if the OS install goes fine and the computer boots up nicely into this install, I will then know that the OS on the SSD is the culprit. If not, I will know that the BIOS is the problem. If essenbe's suggestion about a "hard clearing" of the CMOS does not work, well then I have to look into purchasing another EPROM (used to sell them years ago so I know where to shop - about $16.00).

And yes, I do know I am Brilliant!

It's the BIOS for sure. I just installed Win 7 on a separate HDD. When I asked it to reboot, I again come to: "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device - or Insert Boot Media ...."

Note: I did clear the CMOS with the back button several times.

Any chance the EPROM chip has been damaged?

If you don't want to remove the CMOS battery, pressing and holding the clear CMOS button, or switching the jumper over would be sufficient. It's one of the first things I do when working with the BIOS, either flashing or reflashing.

CMOS battery out now, after holding the Start Button down for about 45 seconds.

Gonna bet the CMOS chip is damaged though.

Steve, every time I think about drinking again, I realize just how much destruction that brought upon my life. It cost me lots of friends and plenty of opportunities I will never have again.

Don't resort to alcohol. It is extremely destructive.

I would recommend you move to Colorado and buy a bong instead.
