Windows 7: USB crashes in windows 7

Windows 7

USB Port/Drivers

The same happened to me. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron E1505, 2GB RAM, 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, ATI Radeon Mobility X1300, 120GB HDD, to Windows 7. Everything went fine until I connected my Sony Reader PRS-505. I've got the Blue Screen of Death that I have not seen since Windows 98. I couldn't read the message since it vanished so quick. My computer has 4 USB ports, two on the [my] right side and the other two on the back. I tried all four and the system crashed all four times. And again, I could read the message. I called Sony and they told me there's a problem with Sony eBook software and they recommended me to upgrade the software, so I did and the problem persisted. I gave up. I did not have this problem under Vista.
Today, I tried to access some files from my 8GB Sandisk U3 Cruzer that I has been using for over 3 years under XP and Vista without a single problem, and guess what: the system crashed!
All these devices have been with me for long time and without a problem until I decided to upgrade the system. and they still work on my HP mini 1000 under Windows XP.

I posted a similar query on the hardware and devices forum (USB Stick Crash). I have two usb memory sticks. Both caused a Windows Explorer crash when inserted in any usb port on my front panel. I reformatted one of them NTFS and it no longer has the problem. I assumed it is something to do with the FAT file system and Windows 7 as I read about a similar problem relating to Vista. However, as I seem to be one of a small number experiencing this, I may be, no I probably am, mistaken, but I have no other explanation to hand.

I didn't read anything here...only glanced briefly.

Today I helped someone repair a USB bsod they had. It wasn't from chipset drivers although that always good to keep up to date.

The onboard networking driver was causing it. So, update all network devices onboard or otherwise.

Guys I'm back this time with a news that my USB thumb drive crashed yesterday when it was inserted to the front port of my desktop computer.
it has windows 7 ultimate edition installed on it.
my system configuration are given below:

CORE 2DUO 1.8 GHz PROCESSOR
INTEL945 MOTHERBOARD
1GB RAM
4 USB 2.0 PORTS,
2 IN THE FRONT PANEL CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

n yes when I mean that the USB device crashes I mean to say it has got something to do with the firmware of the USB stick.
It's a transcend 4 GB USB stick that I was using...
It was working fine till it was not inserted to the front port of my computer.
Yesterday one of my friend accidentally attached it to front port and it stopped working.
Now USB stick is not recognized in any of the computers that I have with Windows XP and Vista.
Also, USB stick gets hot (temp) when connected to computer now
within 1 minute...

I know some one might think that its pretty stupid for me to say all this ..
But lets just hope that some one will give satisfactory answers to this post..
Bye guys.

Ashish

Plz let me know if anyone has any information on this...

I do not want to loose any of my thumb drives in the future...

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Same issues

I have had the same issues mentioned above.

On both Vista and Win7 32 and 64bit, my desktop crashes and either freezes or restarts when i insert a USB flash drive or anything usb that has storage on it. To clarify, This issue does not occur with my printer, mouse, keyboard, etc. only with storage devices.

Also this issue never occurred on XP.

my system:
win764bit ultimate
4gb 6400 ddr2
320gb 7200
500gb 7200
msi k9a platinum mobo
amd athlon x2 6000+
sapphire x1950pro

I really would like to hold onto win7 but if this keeps happening im switching back to XP
