I have tried the other stick in the 'faulty' slot and it has 7 passes with absolutely no errors.
Very odd. Should I proceed to the disk check?
Hi Clive,
Hmm, that is odd isn't it! Yes, go ahead with the disk check and in the mean time, I will see if a hardware expert can assist us because I don't understand how these results are possible!
Tom
I even labelled the slots and sticks so I wouldn't mix the pairs up.
Will do. I'll report back when it's done.
Thanks again.
For a proper memtest you need to run each stick in each slot, If one stick gets errors in any slot, it's bad RAM. If all sticks get errors on one slot, it's the board. IF you get even one error, stop and go to the next slot/stick to test. If you see no errors right away allow the test to run at least 7 passes, errors can appear later.
It is a pain, but the only way to condemn RAM or the board.
Tom, here's the screenshot of the Chkdsk report on the current Windows partition. Attachment 268074 Did you want the "Wininit" log, too? The tutorial is misleading as I was unable to right click on Application to 'Find', I had to select it with a left click before right clicking. I also am unsure where to type Wininit, too.
Many thanks, Britton. I shall do that tomorrow - I know it's tedious but if it helps then I'll try it. It does seem odd how it can be pass and fail with different RAM for both RAM to then pass in another slot.
Britton,
I have tested the RAM on all of the slots that the sticks will fit into - 2. The other two have an extra 'barrier' in the middle which means the current sticks won't fit into them.
Oh, I see it can accept DDR2 or DDR# memory stick, but not both at the same time. Here is a page from the manual.
If one stick fails in both slots the RAM is bad. If both stick fail in the same slot, the board is bad.
