After looking up the Dell forums for related issues, I found some cases in which people had more stability when they uninstalled Intel RST. Could that be worth a try?

OCCT GPU test finished as I wrote this post, and found no errors. My GPU did get to 78C, though, even though that's probably not the problem.

EDIT: The computer froze while I was installing BitDefender, but it didn't seem to cause anything.

EDIT 2: OK so the computer froze the fourth time in succession while I was installing BitDefender. Two of these times it screwed up the installation, trying to fix it atm.

Now this piece of useless junk won't even boot. I'm frustrated to the point I'm considering throwing it out the window and I'm not sure what to do next.

EDIT: The computer resurrected after even Windows Startup Repair failed to fix this. I'm not sure how, but it just turned on. Doesn't make me any happier though.

Since you still don't have a perfect baseline Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
then software cannot be ruled out yet.

In this case I would wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command to clear the boot sector of code that can sometimes interfere and cause problems beyond merely booting.

This time please actually follow the steps in the tutorial to the end.

OK, Windows installation is done, and it's completely clean. Is it OK if I install the drivers from the Resource DVD? (I'll need to get the WLAN card driver from somewhere)

This is all covered very explicitly in the tutorial. Why is it that you simply cannot follow those steps?

You obviously need the LAN driver to get online, but then you should run all rounds of Important and Optional Updates. Supply only the drivers missing in Device Manager after all Updates are done, and use the latest drivers from the PC or Device's Support Downloads webpage.

That you would ask about installing drivers from some outdated disk after all we have been through makes me wonder if its possible for you to get a perfect Clean Reinstall.

The disk is up to date as far as I'm concerned, the driver is a little old. But I can check on the Dell website. The whole problem is that last time I followed the tutorial, it linked me to another article which apparently I shouldn't have followed. That's why I'm checking again with you.

There may be no reason to import any drivers from Dell Support Downloads webpage for your tag #.

Win7 is a driver-complete OS for the most part. Use the drivers which it wants and provides.

Windows update is downloading everything atm, will update when it's finished.

Also, just for the sake of curiosity, is this the same driver you can download at the NVIDIA website?

Unless it leaves you with the placeholder Standard VGA, try the driver WIn7 provides.

This is not XP. It is a driver-complete OS. MS spent a fortune vetting drivers to put into the installer and push out via Updates. They modify many drivers to perform better on Win7.

MS and SevenForums are the authorities on WIn7, not Dell, HP, Intel or Nvidia. They actively work against Win7 with their crapware.
