Once the sfc scannow is done, I will.

It's done, but it looks like there's more corrupted files:
    Attachment 264499
Enough for the .txt file to be 3 MB.

I'll post the results of booting in Safe Mode in a few minutes.

    You can copy Garden.jpg from a working machine form folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery

put on stick and copy to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery on sick machine.
sfc command will fix the problem then. run sfc again and no more errors.

start repair only fixes 1 error at a time. But since sfc check is the last test startup repair does... repairing the sfc problem doesn't force it to check more things.

So .. "startup repair" actually finds no errors. And that's correct.... system is actually booting.

What happens exactly if you try booting to "safe mode"? You see all drivers loading (ending with CLASSPNP.SYS)? You see login screen? You can enter username/password? What happens next. Please exactly
The drivers load, with CLASSPNP.SYS being the last one. The login screen appears, and I can log in with my username and password.
But after I enter the password, it just stalls at the point where the loading circle animation appears next to the word "Welcome".

it really stalls, or keeps the circle animation animate all the time? is there disk activity then (watch the disk light on laptop)?

indeed more errors now. Not very important stuff though.

But how come... that's the question(?)
Things don't get corrupted if not even booting (although you did in safe mode).

Check for virusses offline What is Windows Defender Offline?

Also boot into advanced boot options and do a memory check Memory Diagnostics Tool

Also make a backup of all your data on C #16

After about ten minutes, Windows Defender Offline stalls. The "time elapsed" counter stops going, as does the "items scanned" counter, and I can't cancel the scan, but the shimmering bar animation does not freeze up.

There are also small bursts of disk activity (disk loading sounds, and light is lit up), with about four second intervals, while WDO is stalled.

Kaktussoft is off line at this time.
I would just let it run for a while. Sometimes it will appear stalled but will still be working.
