Also, I checked in the device manager and the hard disk is actually of the Hitachi brand: "Hitachi HTS545032B9A300", to be exact.

Did you backup OS and RECOVERY to external disk. using macrium reflect free? premium edition not needed at all!

Did you do a memory check already?
Did you test the harddisk?

• sfc/scannow gave new errors the 2nd run. You didn't change anything in between.
• chkdsk/f did find some thing
• WDO (from dvd) was very slow half way the process. clean process took a long time as well
• safe mode boot takes an hour to boot. lot's a disk activity
• normal boot takes a long time to boot. lot's a disk activity

Almost sure the disk is faulty

Don't "backup files"!! Image the whole disk, so all partitions. Only select correct devicename/folder for destination. Keep all settings default

Huh. Never really used an image to backup, I suppose. Any other time I have done it (like through Windows Backup), the computer tells me it can't read the image and all I'm left with is a really big junk file.
Shouldn't be a problem now though, since I've reformatted this external HDD to NTFS.

Image is the way to do it!! It has the filesystem type (NTFS), Label in it. Also of course ALL files. All registry settings. All security settings of files (permissions and owner). It's just EVERYTHING of the partitions you select. You can put it back on another disk if you want. It only backups used blocks and compresses as well.

You can even mount the image as a virutal disk and copy a few files from image
