On a ROG motherboard I'd rather run a dual channel if its a dual channel motherboard . But your memory stick should be fine . Is it installed on the second slot (RED) away from the CPU ?

Yes i have 2 x 4gig sticks installed in the red slots.

I have also re inserted the cpu to make sure it was making contact properly and took out the gpu and am currently running off the mobo graphics to see if that was the problem. my psu is a 550 watt so i don't think i am overloading it but i was running that graphics card and 5 case fans and the cpu fan.

Did the sticks come in a kit or you bought them separate ? Usually dual channel memory come in a kit . What does the bios see them as ?

The model number you gave me comes as just 1 memory stick .

Did you set the settings for the memory to 9-9-9-9 ?

That's not how true dual channel memory works . Just cuz the model is the same doesn't mean they will work the same . That is why you purchase a kit that comes with 2 sticks together same speed same everything .
