Win 7 hangs on Welcome screen on Acer Netbook

Put bios in ahci mode and install from bootable flashdrive.

MBR is fine.... it has a disk signature (sort of bar code to uniquely identify the disk), is sees partitions. And it has bootcode to find the ACTIVE partition..... MBR is fine.

It still can be a rootkit virus in MBR. To clean all from disk
Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
do clean instead of "clean all".

But once again... your harddisk is faulty!! Boot from macrium winpe dvd and make a backup!! Also very very slow?? winpe dvd loads everything from dvd in memory and runs from there. It only accesses the internal harddisk to read files. It doesn'execute anything from internal harddisk. So no virus can be active

I did this when installing XP through a flash drive. I now learn AHCI improves performance and is backward compatible...

Will Win 7 install using a Flash drive in AHCI mode?

I still don't rule out a rootkit or a messed up MBR..

Last resort is always Formating and installing Win 7 (Win XP is no longer in agenda for Netbook).

Quick Question.. How will I copy files using this recovery thingy? Can I load the iso on a flash drive (Netbooks got no DVD drive)..???

Make 1 large NTFS partition (type PRIMARY) on usb stick. Mark that partion active. All can be done using "disk management". Partiton is empty now. Extract all files from ISO and put on USB partition. Extracting can be done with WINRAR.

Do it on a good working win7 machine.

Now force boot from usb on sick machine. Adjust BIOS "boot device order" (or something like that) to force that

(Try to) Make a backup first as asked before! If not possible... copy only My documents, My pictures and so on. A MBR virus will still be on disk unless you rewrite the MBR bootcode. MBR virus will be back if you ever boot to the OS that installed the virus (can be XP or WIN7). Code to rewrite MBR bootcode:

On healthy pc:

1. Make a bootbale usb stick MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive - Create
2. Put western digital datalifeguard dianotics for DOS on stick. WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD VelociRaptor download the zip file, put the exe (inside the zip) in root of usb stick.
3. Make usb stick read only (using hardware switch if possible)

Boot sick machine from usb stick. Be sure not to boot from harddisk with stick inserted!! Otherwise MBR vrius can jump over to MBR on usb stick! On sick machine run dlgdia5.exe from usb disk. Now do

Why don't you listen? Try to test the disk offline, so not in win7. Try to backup while booting from usb, you have a fine backup then and can see if it's also slow.

I think as well, it's a nasty virus/rootkit. But you have to make a backup first, if you remove nasty virusses.
