Put bios in ahci mode and install from bootable flashdrive.

MBR is fine.... it has a disk signature (sort of bar code to uniquely identify the disk), is sees partitions. And it has bootcode to find the ACTIVE partition..... MBR is fine.

It still can be a rootkit virus in MBR. To clean all from disk
Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
do clean instead of "clean all".

But once again... your harddisk is faulty!! Boot from macrium winpe dvd and make a backup!! Also very very slow?? winpe dvd loads everything from dvd in memory and runs from there. It only accesses the internal harddisk to read files. It doesn'execute anything from internal harddisk. So no virus can be active

I have to mention this after reading over a topic.

As I have XP the SATA mode is set to IDE (if not it won't load). IS that a problem?

I did this when installing XP through a flash drive. I now learn AHCI improves performance and is backward compatible...

Will Win 7 install using a Flash drive in AHCI mode?

I still don't rule out a rootkit or a messed up MBR..

I have downloaded the image you have hosted on Skydrive.

Thanks for reducing it to 175 mb.. I would not have tried if it was 1.7 GB..

Last resort is always Formating and installing Win 7 (Win XP is no longer in agenda for Netbook).

Quick Question.. How will I copy files using this recovery thingy? Can I load the iso on a flash drive (Netbooks got no DVD drive)..???
Make 1 large NTFS partition (type PRIMARY) on usb stick. Mark that partion active. All can be done using "disk management". Partiton is empty now. Extract all files from ISO and put on USB partition. Extracting can be done with WINRAR.

Do it on a good working win7 machine.

Now force boot from usb on sick machine. Adjust BIOS "boot device order" (or something like that) to force that

Thanks, I am not in a disagreement that the hard disk could be faulty, but I hope a clean install should do the trick, as of late there is a slow surge of speed in data transfer and OS operations in safe mode. Its still slow of course.

I have yesterday managed to make the USB Bootable XP with SP2. But, I wonder now, will any virus creep in when I reinstall XP as the OS files used to make the bootable came from the same netbook hard drive.

I learn XP will not install or load in AHCI mode (loads in IDE only). Can Win 7 be installed using bootable flash drive in AHCI mode? I am try all your suggestions which are possible.

Sorry to ask these many questions. But, if I get any answer, I wont forget them.. Thanks.

I'm afraid that the longer you delay the backup, the worsen your HDD would be...
and after some time, it would be impossible to recover anything anymore
If the disk is faulty, even clean install will not work. Slow data rate is one of the symptoms that your HDD is now waiting for its doom
You're on a race against time here. the longer you wait, the worsen your HDD will be.

I agree with Kaktussoft. If you value the data within your HDD, backup should be on the first priority.
you can do clean install after you replace the disk.

    Cheers

(Try to) Make a backup first as asked before! If not possible... copy only My documents, My pictures and so on. A MBR virus will still be on disk unless you rewrite the MBR bootcode. MBR virus will be back if you ever boot to the OS that installed the virus (can be XP or WIN7). Code to rewrite MBR bootcode:

    Code:
    bootrec/fixmbr
Do it in win7 recovery environment

Can I chat with you over gmail.. I can provide you more information?

    I forgot to mention this....

ESET Smart Security bombed in both XP and Win 7 giving error "error communicating with kernel".

I guess my situation is identical to that of one described in the link below (posted by another netbook user).

How to fix ESET Nod32 Error communicating with Kernel | Techyv.com

Regarding backup.. I have that covered but I am going to get a 1 TB External drive and do a primary backup from my main desktop PC in June. And make a copy on another PC at my cousins place. Besides tonnes of DVD's...

Data wise backup is covered. Besides, I will throw the Hard drive hard on the face of Acer if it is still faulty after a reinstall as they suggested and with Win 7 only running in C: drive. (52 days of warranty). I will reek hell if hard drive is faulty.

And, once warranty elapses and if there is no major hard drive issue, I plan to put in a 64 GB SSD instead.

I cant believe Kaspersky and now Eset too have let virus and trojans in.. I have worked as tech for Norton (Symantec) and understand them very well. But others I have not much Idea. Shame, I dont have another system to give a helping hand unfortunately, or else it would have been concluded by now. But, Still going Strong!!

    On healthy pc:

    1. Make a bootbale usb stick MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive - Create
    2. Put western digital datalifeguard dianotics for DOS on stick. WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD VelociRaptor download the zip file, put the exe (inside the zip) in root of usb stick.
    3. Make usb stick read only (using hardware switch if possible)
Boot sick machine from usb stick. Be sure not to boot from harddisk with stick inserted!! Otherwise MBR vrius can jump over to MBR on usb stick! On sick machine run dlgdia5.exe from usb disk. Now do

SELECT DRIVE - Always choose this option first, as it determines which drive you will be working on.
QUICK TEST - This option tests your drive quickly for any major physical problems. (Please note: Although this option is safe and does not alter the data on your hard drive, Western Digital recommends that you have a current backup of your data).
EXTENDED TEST - This option checks your drive thoroughly and it can repair any correctable errors. (Please note: Although this option is safe and does not alter the data on your hard drive, some data loss may occur, depending on the errors found and the errors corrected. Western Digital recommends that you have a current backup of your data).

Well , well. The WMI repair is paying dividends..

Kaspersky TDSSKiller found a heap of threats.

Few more ammo to be thrown in for good measure.

Why don't you listen? Try to test the disk offline, so not in win7. Try to backup while booting from usb, you have a fine backup then and can see if it's also slow.

I think as well, it's a nasty virus/rootkit. But you have to make a backup first, if you remove nasty virusses.
