BSODs and program shutdowns, seemingly at random

After having recently contracted a virus of some sort, I've been experiencing various issues with my PC, despite having removed the infection and having reinstalled a bunch of drivers. I've run a couple of virus/malware cscans as well as system &registry cleaners but so far, nothing has helped.

Currently, my browser (firefox) as well as numerous other programs(winamp, the gimp, video players, etc.) shut down at odd moments, seemingly without provocation, and occasionally the entire system shuts down with a BSOD (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL).

    Code:
    127.0.0.1 validation.sls.microsoft.com
    127.0.0.1 genuine.microsoft.com
    127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com
You have some interesting entries in your HOSTS file

    Code:
    Product ID:00426-OEM-8992662-00400
And you have a Dell OEM installed on a retail motherboard.

Purchase a genuine Windows 7 - we do not support counterfeit installations
