Windows crashes when attempting to put laptop to sleep

    Hi everyone,

Brand new to the forum here but it looks like you all really know what you are talking about and I could use some help diagnosing my laptop.

Issue at hand: The laptop is about 2 years old and has worked flawlessly since I got it. Just recently and out of nowhere I have been having the frequent problem of the system crashing when I close the lid to my laptop, as I always do, to put it to sleep. When I open it back up to use it again and power it on I get the screen stating that windows failed to shutdown properly and give me the options to boot into safemode or boot normally. When I attempt to start windows normally it launches the startup repair and takes about five minutes until it restarts and starts up normally. After it starts up it runs very sluggish for a while and on occasion (more frequently now) it has given me a BSOD, and performs a memory dump.

Like I said the computer just started doing this out of nowhere, and to my knowledge I have not done anything as far as changing settings or updates that I think would cause this. The problem just start a couple days ago, but it probably cannot be good for the computer to crash and shutdown like this so I would like to fix it asap.

Here is the link to the specifications for my laptop if it will help:
    ASUS - K53SV

I have attached the results pulled from the diagnostic tool.

Your help is very much appreciated. I hope you guys can assist me in solving this issue!

    Welcome to Seven Forums LOki.

Give the drive and memtest tests a go.

    Hard drive(s)test(s):
Pick one for your HDD brand or use Seatools.
7 Free Hard Drive Testing Software Tools

    RAM (memory) test:
This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
    RAM - Test with Memtest86+
I am currently working on a Dell lappy acting the same way and the hard drive was bad.

Thanks for the reply Britton. I gave the HD and RAM tests a shot and they did not find anything wrong. Is this usually a hardware problem from your experience or could it be an issue with the OS? I'm wondering if a reformat will fix things for me? Let me know what you think.

It seems like maybe the thing is shutting down instead of going to sleep with the message you're getting. Try manually putting it to sleep with the start/Shut down button.

For the slowness and lagging it seems like a hardware issue. did you run the long tests on the drive? download Crystal DiskInfo, run it and post a screenshot of the window.
