Another update, today it seems that my hard drive has finally given up. The pc blue screened, and would not recognize the hard drive until a cold start. Now, I cannot get past the Starting Windows screen, which crashes usually with this error: "0x00000b4 Video driver failed to initialize".

I also cannot boot into safe mode, as it will blue screen soon after the mouse cursor appears.

Once again, Windows Startup repair spends a large amount of time trying to fix the problem, but never succeeds at doing anything.
