BSOD after "Windows is starting..." with "MCE"

    Hello,

    I'm seeking for help here.
Recently, my computer started having BSOD after the "Windows is starting..." screen. It tells me something with MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.
I know it's something with my video card driver but I can't figure it out since everytime I update my video card driver my screens either either gets black after boot or I get a BSOD with Machine_Check_Exceptionl so I have to go in Safe Mode to uninstall my driver.
I hope someone can help me.

    Regards,
    Tike

safe mode works fine? install "standard VGA graphical adapter" instead. Just as a test.
open "device manager". right click your display adapter->graphics card->upgrade driver. search on computer. pick from list. "compatible hardware". Now select "standard VGA graphical adapter" instead.

    Does it boot succesfully afterwards?

Did you overclock the system? System overheated? Test your memory Memory Diagnostics Tool

It does boot into safe mode, yes.

With the Standard VGA graphical adapter, it seemed to work so far.
I'm already thankful enough, but do you know why it does this when I install the NVIDIA driver?

    What cpu do you have?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine-check_exception
    Problem types

Most of these errors relate specifically to the Pentium processor family. Similar errors may occur on other processors and will cause similar problems.
Some of the main hardware problems that cause MCEs include:
    Possible causes

Normal causes[clarification needed] for MCE errors include overheating and/or incorrect hardware installation. Specific manually-induced causes include:
    • overclocking (which normally increases heat-output)
    • poorly-fitted heatsink/computer fans (the same problem can happen with excessive dust in the CPU fan)
    • an overloaded internal or external power-supply (fixable by upgrading)
Computer software can also cause MCE errors (normally by corrupting data which programs read or write). For example, software performing read or write operations from or to non-existent memory regions can lead to confusion for the processor and/or the system bus.[citation needed] Accessing memory marked off-limits by UEFI may cause MCE errors.[2]

Stop error message in Windows XP that you may receive: "0x0000009C (0x00000004, 0x00000000, 0xb2000000, 0x00020151)"

@x BlueRobot: I can't update my WHQL nor beta driver as I'll get a black screen or no signal after boot if I install NVIDIA drivers.

@Kaktussoft: Yes, I do have a Pentium processor but I plan on getting a Core 2 Quad Q9450. I've never ever overclocked anything. How can I check on errors in my CPU?

Could the NVIDIA driver also have caused the BSOD?

Do what BlueRobot wrote in #5

    • overheating...very unlikely
    • not overclocked
    • check your memory... although very unlikely the cause of problem
Most likely faulty nvidia card (hardware fault)

Is there a solution for the black screen after boot after installing new drivers or can I atleast change my aspect ratio with "Standard VGA graphics adapter"?
