Do you have the wi fi/ Bluetooth module installed? Are you using them? What about thunderbolt? Are you using that? Do you use the ASMedia sata ports, and this includes the esata port? The reason I ask, and it will not matter that much, is If the board has a function I do not use, I disable it in bios. Again, it won't make much difference, I just do it. When you start the computer, from the time you push the start button until you see the windows starting, the BIOS is going through POST (Pre operation self test); it is looking for devices that are enabled. For instance, if you have the ASMedia ports enabled, the bios is looking for devices connected to it. When it finds none it continues with the next operation. So, if you are not using it, why make the bios look for something that is not there? To answer your next question, no it does not hurt the computer at all to do that as far as I know. But, I'm OCD. I see no sense in going through that. You will probably notice any difference either way you do it, but it seems to me that it makes no sense. You could do that if you wanted, but if you do, make sure you know what you are disabling. If you don't know what it is or are unsure, leave it alone. If you decide not to mess with it, that may be best for you. most of the rest of any optimizations are in the operating system. There are very few to do there. Windows does a fairly good job of handling things. The most important things are make sure defragmention is not run on the SSD. You never defragment an SSD. Windows usually does that automatically. And reduce the number of startup programs that are not necessary. That will speed up your boot times. An SSD is used because programs start instantly. No need to start things you may or may not use. They will start when needed almost instantly. If you do not use Hibernate, disable it in the OS. It will save you 16GB of space on your SSD. The same with the page file. With 16GB of ram, you will probably never use the page file, so reduce it to 1GB (1024MB), that much is necessary to write dump files in case of a BSOD. The majority of the rest of the optimizations are your preferences. When to turn the display off during periods of inactivity, when to put the hard drive into sleep mode for example. Something really neat and useful; Create a new folder on your desktop, rename it
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} watch what happens. Move your user folders to a mechanical hard drive to save space on your SSD. You will not notice any difference in using them. Just a few things I do, that makes it work more the way I want it to. Questions? Ask away. But, rule #1 backup, backup backup. Rule #2 If you decide you want to overclock, study up on how and do it in bios, never use software or the auto overclocking utilities that come with the board.

Thanks again for all this valuable information. I don't have these things installed you mentioned. I will probably skip disabling things in BIOS. That would only cause trouble with my luck! And as well as my computer is optimized and working now I don't think I'll need to squeeze more juice out of it. The same applies with the overclocking. I don't really have use for it so why mess with the system when it's not needed like you said.

A couple of questions. What is this Hibernation thing and how to disable it? Same thing about this page file. How do I do this user folder thing?

Cool thing this God Mode you showed. I'd better take a closer look at it.

So, this thread can pretty much be marked "solved". No annoying BSODs anymore, system runs smoothly and steadily and from now on more optimized also. I've learned a lot about this system, what to do and what to avoid. So, once again, I give you my humble appreciation. Hopefully I don't need to come here asking about BSODs any more

I'd recommend you run your system pretty hard for a couple of days before marking this solved, although it should be stable.
    Hibernate - Enable or Disable
Virtual Memory Paging File - Change
User Profile - Change Default Location

I hope we'll see you around a lot. There is an awful lot to learn on this site and you don't have to be having problems to come here. The "God Mode' is a list of every control you have on Windows 7. You were a good person to help. Many are not so cooperative. If you have any problems in the future, feel free to contact me. Stay away from the optimizer and 'speed up your computer' type programs. They will mess up your computer very quickly. Once again, thanks for being so willing and cooperative. That makes it so much easier to help you.

Yes, I've noticed this site is full of useful threads, problem-solving tips and so on. I will definately stay with you guys and try to learn more and more. And I tried to be as co-operative as possible :) I will follow your instructions in the future which helps me from messing up my system which has happened every now and then. It's better to ask first..and I will push my system to the limit, after that this thread can be marked as "solved". After a weeks hard work I must say i'm relieved and happy! Thanks again, essenbe and everyone else who helped me, that means koolkat77 and Britton30..

    regards

You're more than welcome. If you have any questions in the future, feel free to contact me. You may also want to know you are running one of the first bios updates that your board came with. It is very stable though. I used it for a long time. Most of the other bios updates were not stable and caused problems. If you update your bios (which is simple) I would skip all the others and update to bios version 1707. I'm pretty sure it is the most current right now and is stable. But, as long as you continue to have no problems, just stick with what you have. It works fine. Keep in contact.

Yeah, great work Steve. We wish you well now miksu and don't be a stranger. I believe I've learned more here than help I've given.

Thanks to you too, Britton30. Very nice and impressive work you all did here. I'll bet taking the computer to a shop or calling some freaking hot line would not have resulted the way it did here. Despite the fact that I'm a total dummy in this area and with limited skills in English you all succeeded to help me. Impressive, indeed.
