    Couldn't run through readiness checker

I tried several times to run the readiness checker. Every time I looked over, it was either still running or the system was rebooting. I'm including the log anyway in case it finished.

BTW, it failed with the same type of message when running SFC /scannow as before.

Your CBS log has quite a few manifest errors but doesn't mention which manifest is at fault, nor does the CheckSUR log, so I think the only way forward from here is to do a repair install:

I was thinking around the same lines. Whatever happened here, it toasted the system. You made a heroic effort. I will attempt a repair install, but in the OEM's infinite wisdom, an operating system was not included, just a restore partition and restore disks. In my experience, the repair install works less than half the time, so I don't normally even try it anymore. I'm going to try the digital river link provided to get a Win 7 Pro 64-bit ISO for the repair. My main concern is to save the XP Mode and all of the customization I did to get some legacy software to work. I like the export function of Windows 8 VM, but it looks like you have to manually do this for windows 7. I'm going to attempt a backup of the XP Mode before I do anything else. I'll update you when it's done. Wish me luck.

P.S. Enjoy your holiday, you deserve it.

    Hi Jeff,

That sounds like a job and a half! Windows is a pain to reinstall on its own, let alone having to fiddle with getting your XP mode set up again, but at least you'll be error free at the end of it! Good luck with the reinstall! Hopefully you won't need it though :)

Thanks! I can't wait Finally managed to get through all of my threads before I leave!
