BSOD 0x124, AMD GPU related.
I recently purchased two 1024MB 7770's, one is a Sapphire (two fans) and the other is a XFX (one fan). The Sapphire came overclocked by default so I thought there wasn't going to be any issues until yesterday. I'm casually browsing the internet when I hear the fans of my Sapphire rapidly increase in speed and I smell a slight burning smell so I immediately power off my PC as quickly as I could, left it for a few minutes and powered it back on and that's when I got the first BSOD. The Sapphire GPU was extremely hot for some reason so I just left it out in the open for it to cool down over night. It's not even like I was running anything really GPU intensive, I have two monitors setup but that's about it. One monitor for each GPU, makes sense.
If I have the Sapphire plugged in, I blue screen after the Windows logo finishes loading, a few seconds before it gets onto the logon screen. If I just have the XFX plugged in, everything runs fine as usual. I can run in safe mode with both GPU's plugged in and I can see both of them in device manager.
I've had a bit of a search around and I'm guessing it has something to do with my OC GPU but I can't turn the settings down on it if I can't actually do anything with it in safe mode or if I can't have it plugged in when I boot into Windows normally. At the moment I have it plugged in and powered but just disabled through device manager (did this through safe mode, was the only way I could).
I'm hoping that my GPU hasn't burnt out because I have only just bought this. Would I have to take the GPU apart to check what's wrong with it because if I can, I'd much rather leave in tact and not possibly damage it further.
Here are my PC specs:
- xw6600 Workstation motherboard
- two 1024 MB AMD 7770's
- 8GB RAM
- two quad core 2.66 Ghz E5430 Intel Xeon processors
- 650 watt PSU
- two 500 GB hard drives
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Thanks in advance!!!
I have posted a similar post on the Tech Support Forums, but I thought I would get as much help as possible. Dual AMD HD 7770 on a HP xw6600 Workstation - one GPU fails & get blue screen - Tech Support Forum
