    Errors at start-up

    Hello!

Since a couple of days I am getting:

    Unexpected I/O error at start-up
Hard disk read failure at start-up

Sometimes I can repair with the installation DVD, sometimes that fails as well, but next time windows will boot normally.

I actually doubt it's an harddisk harware problem... Could there be another reason? I have the feeling this started after I got the problem of having
CHKDSK running at most of star-up's, which i "solved" by disabling chkdsk (which never found any error anyway...)

    Any idea?

    Thanks,
    diodorus

Your ARE having a hardware failure.

Drive Controller, drive, cabling, or power.

Replace the drive. Did the problem go away? If yes, bad drive. Else, replace the cabling/power. Did the problem go away?

If not, replace the power - either by rail or PSU.

I unplugged and replugged the sata cables (harddisk and br-rom) (to different mobo sata port), and so far (a couple of reboots) I haven't had any more issues.

However, maybe it's still too early to draw conclusions. I will keep posting updates here: until then... thanks!
