BSOD at random, also PC locking up for 5-10 seconds. error 0x00000101

    Hi

I've been having this issue for about a month now, and has now gotten teeth-gnashingly infuriating! I have had this setup for about 18months, and the last hardware added was a different DVD write about 14 months ago.

No specific pattern/cause but PC would just BSOD with the message "A clock interupt was not received on a secondary processor". I've rotated the RAM to see if this is any issue, reseated the GFX card, and even taken out 1 stick of memory to see if this helps; but it hasn't. BSOD has gotten less frequent, but the pausing and locking up is happening nearly every other minute, and lasts for upto 10 seconds.

I haven't updated to the latest BIOS as yet, as according to the suppliers of the OC'd chip/mobo, it would render the OC redundant. However, I have now gone back to standard settings, so maybe the BIOS update would be advisable.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Many thanks

Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.

OK..... getting through the requested tests, so here is what I've got so far

    Prime95 test

    • Ran this for 2.5hrs and CPU peaked at 63degrees C, with system hitting 40degrees C

    Speccy

    • attached below

    MSINFO32

    • attached

Not over-clocking, and current CPU temp 45degrees C, with system at 32degrees C - current room temp is about 20degrees.

    More to follow....

Sorry, forgot that one..... Memtest came back as a pass, with no errors.
That is all I'm supposed to see, right

Only one I've still got to do is the GFX test.

In the past week, I've only had 2 BSOD but have still had some random lock-ups

    Many thanks

I hope you ran memtest for 8 passes at least?

If the GPU test also comes free from errors, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

       Information
    Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

       Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

       Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Left Memtest running all night - 10pm until 7am, so was quite relieved when it said no errors - but was annoyed as hoped that would be the cause and then it at least I'd know!!

Will run the GFX tonight, and also Memtest after.

Not sure if it has any bearing on the problem, but it seems to be more likely to happen when using the USB ports for charging my iPhone.... PSU problem??

Will carry on as advised though.

    Many thanks so far.....

    Good point.

What is the wattage of the PSU and how old it is?

And, Disable USB Selective Suspensd too.

Have now disabled USB Selective Suspend - tick :)

PSU is a 700w CoolerMaster, modular and is approx. 2 years old now. Checking with the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator eXtreme Power Supply Calculator, and allowing for a system load of 90%, with 30% capacitor aging, for my rig I need at least 557w supply, so that seems ok for now....

Checking with CPU-Z, my core voltage is running at 0.939v/0.946v, with an occassional 'peak' to 1.237v - this is when sitting at desktop.

Memtest ran again during the night, 10pm to 5am, and again no errors reported.

Running FurMark and no glitching, tearing or artifacting and smooth video
During the test, card got to 96degrees C, averaging 20FPS

    Onto Driver Verifier now.....
