    New Build BSOD's

    Hi all.

I recnetly (> 1 week) built a new PC, and am having some issues.

I have had 6 BSOD's in the last 48 hours. They all occured during moderate to heavy usage of the computer, and all while either video playing (hulu) or gaming (wow) was going on, or both.

All of the crashes had the code d7, which i understand is usually a driver issue. I have tried to get the most recent drivers for all of my hardware.

I did run the MDSched util, and got no errors. I have tried to run memtest, and had some issues there. The single-cpu test gets no errors but stops and boots at ~45percent of test 1, which i understand is fairly common with multiple cpus. the multiple cpu test looks like it just freezes, but thats experimental so i didn't have high hopes for it.

I have the dumps and was very much hoping someone could just parse them and tell me the name of the driver file thats malfunctioniong, if it is one, and i can then either find a replacement driver or at worst a replacement part.

I am not currently OC'ing at all, and the cooling should not be a problem at all.

    My hardware is as follows:

    MSI N9600GT-MD1G 1Gb DDR3 video card
    Newegg.com - MSI N9600GT-MD1G GeForce 9600 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards-_-
    4 gb (2x2gb) crucial 1333 Ram
    Newegg.com - Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BA1339 - Desktop Memory-_-
Intel Quad Core 2.66Ghz, not OC'd at all currently
    Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops-_-
i did replace the heatsink/fan with a rosewill unit, :
    Newegg.com - Rosewill RCX-Z90-AL 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks-_-
2 Hard drives, an older sata that i pulled from the last pc, and a new 750 gb WD Caviar drive:
    Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD7500AADS 750GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare Drive-_-
The mainboard is an Asus, Newegg.com - ASUS P5P43TD Pro LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards-_-

i also have an old wifi card, a linksys wmp54g, and an old tv tuner card in the case, although i haven't installed any drivers for the tuner yet and it is totally unrecognized by the system (i scavenged the tuner as well, and have no idea where to find vista or 7 drivers for it lol).
i also have a dvd burner and dvd player scavenged from the old case, without any drivers whatsoever 7 seems to like em just fine.

shouldnt matter, but the ps is:
    Newegg.com - Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2SB 500W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply - Power Supplies-_-
    and the case is:
    Newegg.com - Rosewill RCX-Z90-AL 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks-_-

attached are the dumps, all in one zip, so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

    Great problem write-up :)

Actually, they're a mix of D1, A, and stop 0x50s. Some video, some low-level memory handling, some completely obliterated to the point where it's hard to tell what was going on, let alone where.

    Hang on to that thought....

There's no (obvious) involvement from 3rd-party code. It's all Microsoft stuff, mostly in the kernel.

I think your processor may be screwy. There is evidence in one of the dumps that the cores may be experiencing problems while attempting to communicate with each other. That doesn't prove that the processor itself is at fault (a minidump hardly "proves" anything). However, in your situation it would be enough to make me think the processor may be the best place to start being suspicious.

Well, i was around for only 4 of the bsods, and i think 3 were d1's and one was an a, so i guess it is possible for the others to have had different codes without my knowledge.

anyway, where would you suggest i go from here? just rma the processor and try a new one? i cant exactly swap it out with one of the other processors i have standing around idle, as i try not to keep parts that expensive idle lol. or is there some kind of firmware update i should try and get my hands on for the processor? ive been building pc's for years, and never had a problem with a cpu except one that was totally doa (and that took me AGES to track down the problem there lol).

the issues i posted above, in that same paragraph, lol, but heres the quote:

    Hi,

I've analyzed your minidump files and these files caused error (from older to newer minidump file):
    1. ntoskrnl.exe
    2. dxgmms1.sys and hall.dll
    3. win32k.sys
    4. ntoskrnl.exe
    5. ndis.sys
    6. dxgmms1.sys
    7. nvlddmkm.sys

There is very big chance that your problems with computer are because of this, I suggest try run memtest again now with only one 2GB memory stick, if the error occur again, you can try with other memory sticks if you will be able to do this.

As a suggestion, don't use the word "caused" in that context. It could lead somebody to believe that the problem is to be found in those executable files you listed, and in this instance that would be an incorrect assessment.

Have you tried another memory test. That'll help rule out problems with the test itself.

    Here's a link to Memtest86+:
    http://www.memtest.org/
I've heard of issues with Memtest, so I try and use Memtest86+ in it's place whenever possible.

I have much better luck finding memory problems using the Windows version of Memtest. It's faster than the CD version and it also can find problems that the CD version will miss. MemTest for Windows Download Page

Directions for using it here. How to use Memtest for Windows
