That's strange. Normally you can't get OEM computers to not show the manufacturer's logo. It also indicates, to me, a possible bios problem. When you start your computer, do you hear a beep during startup. If you do, that usually indicates it has passed POST, and when you need to press the F2.

Just tried again, no beep and it boots straight into windows. I did delete the recovery partition with my last windows installation, I thought that because I bought the win.7 ultimate DVD, that that would be okay. After the installation I could still boot into the bios via F2, but not since my trouble started.

Hi guys, things are getting stranger and stranger. I managed to do the msconfig and safe mode suggestion, but on restart the screen would at first just stay black. Then suddenly it booted to the Kaspersky rescue disk 10 that was in the DVD, the screen was flickering away but I was still able to choose 1 [ agree with licence agreement and then chose graphic mode ]; I could hear the dvd running for a while, but then everything went quiet and the screen went black, apart from small light flashes. Restarted the computer and low and behold the asus screen shows and then press any key to boot from DVD, I have changed the Kaspersky rescue disk for the windows installation disk in the hope to be able to reinstall windows should I get the opportunity. The screen flickers so fast that it is impossible to make any choices and eventually it stops and goes to the black screen again. I made a video of it not sure whether I would be allowed to upload it though. I see, I cannot, tried to take photos , but difficult to take it at the right time , because of the flickering.

I have now restarted with the kaspersky rescue disk in the DVD and managed to get it going; screen still flickering away - it is scanning disk boot sectors; hidden start up objects and C. Anything else I should do while I am in it?

Kaspersky object scan is giving an error code looks like 9ABE0003; My update centre tab says : databases status corrupted; I clicked update , but it says the update source cannot be found. The report says it did not scan anything.

Boot into Windows and in an elevated command prompt ( start- type cmd- right click the entry that appears and select run as administrator) in the window that opens copy/paste sfc /scannow . It is a system file checker to check and repair any damaged or corrupted system files. If you type it in, notice the space between sfc and /. also, while in Windows post a screenshot of disk management expanded so the top and bottom are shown. Hi Essenbe, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Kaspersky rescue 10 was busy scanning disk boot sectors; hidden start up objects and sda1 = found nothing. Then did what you asked me to, find information uploaded. Very interesting is that when I was in safe mode the screen kept flickering away, at first very fast so I could not find the cursor to make choices, later on much slower. I was able to get into the bios and changed the boot sequence. With the windows dvd in , I did system repair which found nothing wrong, I then proceeded to do a system restore which gave an unspecified error [ 0x8000ffff]; I tried to use C:> but it said failed to run. Then went back into windows did what you asked and deactivated safe mode. Restarted --- no more flickering!!

OK, the SFC scan found errors and said it repaired them, reboot and run it again. If it finds errors, reboot and run it until it says no integrity violations were found. It may take 3 or 4 times. See if things seem better. Disk Management looks OK, to me.
