While this is very much a 'me too' I'd like to clarify for the thread (And any future readers) that I had the same issue regarding lockup on login.

However I noticed that while visually the computer was hung, I could still move the mouse around and issue commands using windows shortcuts (eg, Win+R, CTRL+Shift+Esc etc) and using some of these I could occasionally get dumped to a working desktop and the computer would continue to boot as normal.

Reading the above quote made me realise that my issues did in fact begin when I started using CoreTemp and set it to start with Windows.

Disabling the 'start with Windows' feature of CoreTemp caused the system to hang instantly, though once I rebooted the issue with login freezes was gone.

It appears CoreTemp is to blame, specifically on login due to the 'start with Windows' option.
