System freezes after BSOD memory dump, cannot shut down or restart...
Hi everyone,
So I've been getting a BSOD on my system when I play certain video files, mostly *.mp4. BSOD error is always the same and involves my ATI graphics drivers, particularly atimpag.sys. Now I've figured out that the error only happens when I have my switchable graphics system set up to use the AMD Radeon chipset (high performance) for the video player, whereas if I have it set to use the Intel chipset (power saving) for the player then the files will play just fine.
I'll deal with the graphics drivers and such later, but right now my primary issue is with the way the system responds after the BSOD appears. The BSOD comes up, tells me what the problem was and what file caused it, and then starts a full physical memory dump. Progress text runs through its thing and eventually displays that the memory dump is 100% complete, and then *nothing happens*! The system just totally freezes up. I can't get the system to shut down or restart or try to recover or anything. I have the system configured to automatically restart on system errors, but it just locks up. The only thing I can do is force hard shut down by holding the power button. Nothing else works.
I'm hoping that someone here can help me figure out why the system freezes when the BSOD finishes the memory dump. And hopefully someone can help me fix it so it doesn't freeze anymore.
Attached is my zip file with the dump information.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Drake
