windows 7 freezes while setting idle - one BSoD

Something happened Aug.28 causing my PC to freeze often requiring a power cycle. For some reason I only had 1 restore point Aug. 31. My event log has over 7,000 events.
    So far I have tried:
    chkdisk - all OK
    sfc scan - all OK
ran HP's PC doctor - HD looks OK, video is OK and up to date
What is left maybe memory and reg.?

BTW I can boot to SAFE+Network and no freezing.
    My BSoD - stop:0x00000009f

    Welcome to SF :).
Thank you for all the test you performed so far, but we need the file generated by the SFDT to be able to help.

    YoYo155,
Thank you for your reply. Seems I had either a bad connection (opened up my PC and poked around) or maybe a broken video card driver. After checking cables and connections and updating my AMD/ATI drivers I have had no BSoD and only 1 event in 1 days. While broken I has 7,200 events in about 4 days

All is now working great...if I have more trouble I will be back.

Well another BSoD this morning. I read your 'Posting Instructions' and will download the tool and post back...I knew it would not be that easy

    going down hill fast

I no longer can get to my desktop, recovery partition or safe mode. I made it to 'Repair' once and let it set 24hrs but it did not seem to be doing anything. I check BIOS and settings look good. The BIOS can see my HHD but the only test I could do is SMART. Both and SHORT and LONG test failed. I assume that many System Files are bad and/or the HHD had a head crash or failed. I plan to put a new (faster :)) HHD in and do a full restore. I have the restore DVDs and I was able to get important files backed up a few days ago. I will just need to deal with MS if I need to activate Win7 and MS Office again

I pulled the HDD and put it in an external USB enclosure. I can see the restore partition files but if I try to look at files in the main C: partition my laptop it says ''not formatted'. Guess something bad happened. Wonder if I can recover the files?? Anyway I will set that HDD aside, install a new one and restore from DVDs I burned when I got this PC.
Thanks YoYo155 for your interest in my problems.
