    Random Restarts during Games, no BSOD


    Hello,

    I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor to an AMD FX 8350 and an ASUS Sabertooth FX990. Only issue was once it was done being upgraded, that computer would randomly restart with no BSOD. It comes up with the screen asking if I want to start the computer in Safe Mode because it was not shut down properly. I disabled the automatic restarts and I still have no BSOD.

    I have the files from the SF Diagnostic Tool, and I am uploading them below. I am not very knowledgeable with computers (i know just enough to be dangerous). The restarts occur randomly, could be after 25 minutes, or like today, after almost 2 hours. If you have any questions, or thoughts, and hopefully help. Let me know. Thank you in advance.

    Did you do a clean install after building the computer? Also, when you first started it did you go to bios and set optimized defaults? if not, you should do so. Before you do, take notice of your sata controller (IDE or AHCI) and after you set defaults, make sure you put the sata controller in the same mode as it's in now or the computer won't boot. Also, set your ram frequency, timings and voltage to manufacturer's specs, which are on a white tag on the ram sticks, then set the boot order witg DVD/CD as 1st boot device and hard drive as second boot device, save and exit. If it continues, run memtest86+ (make sure it is the + version and follow the instructions exactly in this tutorial RAM - Test with Memtest86+. Let us know how that works out.

    I completed a clean install, although I was thinking of possibly trying another reinstall to see if that would fix the issue. I am about to go to bed, but I will check out the RAM timings and such tomorrow and let you know. I know that the BIOs was optimized as well before I used it. But like i said, i will let you know.

    Ok, let us know tomorrow. But by optimized, there is a setting of optimized defaults in bios, did you use that? And what else did you change? Have you downloaded and installed the Windows updates. Run them until it says no more updates. Also go to device manager, (click start and type device manager in the search box) see if there are any yellow triangles or exclamation marks on any items there. Did you update your bios to the latest version? And did you load drivers from the disk or go to the motherboard's web site and download the drivers? The ones on the web site will be more up to date. What size and brand of PSU do you have?

    Hello, sorry for the delay in replies, got a little busy over the holiday. I went through and completed some of the things that you suggested, as well as a few other things I heard worth trying yet. I reset the optimized settings in the BIOS and double checked the RAM timings. I made sure I had all of the windows updates installed, which I did. I checked the drivers and saw no issues in the device manager. One thing that I noticed was that the motherboard drivers were never installed, something that could potentially be an issue, so I installed all of the drivers located on the ASUS website. I have the computer just running right now, not doing much of anything but will put some stress onto it tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that the drivers take away the issue.

    Also, since i forgot to mention...I have an XFX 850W Pro that is brand new, just installed about 2 weeks ago. I originally thought it was a failing power supply so I popped this one in.

    Thanks for letting us know. Now that you have the motherboard drivers installed, let's see if it helps.

    Also, did you install the Graphics driver from AMD? http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Be sure to completely uninstall any graphics drivers you have now, first.

    Hello,
    Sorry for the delay in replies to the this. I believe that the problem is solved. I went back through the chipset drivers, and for some reason, one of them was missed/never installed. It is now working fine. I ran the computer for multiple hours and have had no issues (including running Skyrim on Ultra for 6 hours). I will be testing it a little more this weekend and give it a good 13 hour or more test. I will reply if there are any further issues, but I believe that it is solved.
